Absolutely gorgeous hike for being so close to a town! Trails are well maintained and easy to follow.

I was aiming for a 20K trail-running PR today. It’s been raining cats and dogs, pigs, and cows, all week. I wish I had taken that into account more.

Aside from the course being very poorly marked with virtually no blazes or markings, which is why I rate it 3 stars, there is no forewarning that the trail is in a flood area. As far as I know there were no prior flood warnings announced. Perhaps there were in Fairfax County and in Northern Virginia, or perhaps I missed the announcements up here in the Baltimore County area.

Howbeit, this literally turned out to be one of the worst days to run a 20K, period. I ran right into above knee-high flooding when I got to the Difficult Run portion of the course. See my recording — I took a photo of this disaster. I was actually going to continue running through the flood which went on for miles, but the flood height would not relent — knee high and below is probably okay but still a risk, but thigh high is not a good idea at all. One simple cannot see all the under water snakes, rats, and other biting creatures trying to survive after being swept away by flood waters. Also, one runs the risk of being swept away by ensuing rapids. It’s just not a good idea.

I had no choice but to take a detour out of the park altogether onto the closest nearby road. I still managed to get in 10 miles; so at least I got in some weekly mileage.

It was only after I finished that I found out that this trail is in a high-risk flood area, and there was a news announcement 3 days ago. Here’s the web link: https://www.nbcwashington.com/weather/stories/Rain-Continues-Flooding-a-Concern-in-Parts-of-the-Area-482769511.html

ADVANCED WARNING: If you plan to run this course and it has been raining, do yourself a favor and find out the conditions of the course before launching out. Maybe I’ll return to complete the course, but I will ensure the area is completely dry first. Ugghh!!!

The paths were great but the only thing I didn’t like was that there were no markers or many signs on what path you were on. It’s a maze and it would be great to have more markers/signs. Thank goodness for this app.

This hike takes you along paved trail which have townhouses on both sides. Very disappointed, felt like I was walking in someone's backyard. Too residential. Not recommended. Parking stinks!

Stunning ferns covering the ground make for a nice change in the flora you typically see. Fun for walking, running, and biking.

Nice paved loop with no major changes in relief - few rolling hills. Mostly shaded paths with a few tunnels under major secondary roads. It was a little confusing when I used directions and ended up at a shopping plaza - but it was pretty easy to get on course.

Lake is small - no spectacular views but it's a nice trail. Lots of roots and rocks to walk over, which I really enjoy but may be problematic for some. Trail gets very narrow in several areas so it's hard to pass. Lots of mountain bikers also use this trail, which can make for some very close calls in the narrower areas.

it's an ok trail. It has campsites and houses stationed at some points. it is rated moderate, but I will call it easy.

Really nice view!!! We'll do it again...

Nice path but too much neighborhood trails and too many streets to cross. Also poor signage.

Easy to get to with plenty of parking. It is a very small lake, but has a lot of trails that are well maintained. Summers are great with picnic tables and hammocks, but they are removed after summer. Many trails are very narrow making it difficult for bikers and walkers to share.

Decent walk, nothing difficult and kind of scenic.

it was alright, the trails were marked but led us into private property so we had to walk back. Not heavily trafficked and not dirty, it wasn't a bad experience by any means,

Directions are wrong

This was ok, not much in terms of scenary, albeit it was an early spring day with leaves still on the ground. Trail is good for mountain bikes though, passed quite a few on the way. No trail markers, or at least couldn't see any, and visitor's center wasn't helpful past handing out a map. Once you find the trail though, it's pretty straight forward to follow it. Will likely return with a mountain bike.

Very nice trail that I run 2-3x a week. More mountain bikers than runners though. For every 10 mountain bikers I see, I see one runner. Everyone shares the trail and is very courteous. My Fitbit says I do an elevation of 400 feet or roughly 31 stairs climbed, so reasonable incline work is present on the trail. Many different paths can be chosen to mix up the experience.

Nice moderate walk that winds throughout the Reston Association. Beautiful fall day and colors. Paved hiking trail the whole way. Passed by several of the small lakes in the Reston area with beautiful scenes of homes docks canoes and blue water. Peaceful! Some inclines but mostly flat. The terrain map is very accurate as we deviated a bit from the red loop on map and followed the blue dotted trails with no problem. Using the app's gps helped. Full red loop on app would have taken about two hours. Dog stations with waste bags at several locations. Lots of woods preserved by the Association. Really nice trail and walk!

Quick easy & nice fall colors.

I love this trail and I usually access it in Reston from the back of the Skatequest parking lot which is right off of the W&OD bike path. I take it up to Rt 7 and back in 45 min for a short ride or up to Great Falls park for a long ride.

It was a beautiful hiking day. This was a bit long for the punch but a day hiking beats a day at the desk.

It's a nice trail for jogging, running, and biking. The circuit I used to run on a regular basis begins near the campgrounds (just NW of the soccer fields), passes alongside the bridge, then the lake, continues through the woods across a small stream, and around the fields. The terrain is relatively flat with a rocky patch near the bridge and a few hills to the East.

Great trail! Don't follow the directions given. They dump you off at a residential neighborhood with no trailhead. The best place to catch the trail is at colvin run road and leesburg pike. Public parking and options of heading to great falls or playing around on the trails to the south west.

Best run ever in the middle of a city, not crazy hard but enough to get your adrenaline racing.
