The trail itself is on the fine line between being able to follow and blending in with the rest of the forest. I personally got lost a couple times but found the trail again quickly. Beautiful scenery while hiking but it does not lead to a summit or overlook that other hikes may lead to.

This is not an easy hike, but is beautiful and definitely well worth the effort.
We drove up on a Friday evening and camped at Bolar Mountain Campground (recommend Campground #3, since that's where the trailhead is). Very nice campgrounds, beautiful beaches. Hit the trail Saturday morning. It is 3.3 miles of up and down. Beautiful, but hard. Arrived 2.5 hours later at Greenwood Point, where we spent Saturday night before returning Sunday morning.
Lots of fishing, swimming. Great campsites. No problems with bears or any other animals.
I did this hike with 7 kids aged 7-14 and 2 dogs. Everyone carried their own pack/tent/bag/gear. If we were to do it again, we'd hike in for two days. Strongly recommend for a weekend away. Lake Moomaw is amazing. Bath County is gorgeous.
