This is a great trail for a day hike. The lower trail is the best. Went with my Brother one day and took my wife back the next. The falls are beautiful in the fall with the leaves dropping all around. I hope to go back when they’re frozen over to get some pictures then as well

Love this hike! Its the second time I've hiked it and the waterfalls just never get old. Beautiful scenery!

Went for the second time and did the lower trail. It was very hardcore! Nicer views and close to the run off but I’m so glad we took the less difficult trail back. Very confusing at some points I wanted to try and get back on other trail but glad I didn’t because the views were extraordinary. My pup conquered it no problem but we were plum wore out. Burned those calories!

my favorite hike!

This was such a gorgeous hike, especially with the leaves changing colors! We had people of varying skill levels in our group and this seemed to be a pretty good trail choice for everyone. Will definitely be back!

Beautiful!

The parking lot was completely full when we got there on a Saturday. Make sure you have $3 to park in the lot. I would give it a -10 out of 10 on solitude, couldn't even stop and take a picture without a group of people on your back. We took the "scenic trail" and the stream was beautiful the whole way to the falls. There were lots of mini falls and places for my dog to stop and splash in the water. The falls were beautiful! The trails were very well maintained. I would rate this as an easy hike. The views were worth it even with all the people!

have hiked this many times, love it. will do again I'm sure.

Peaceful noises of water rushing throughout the hike created a relaxing space. Gorgeous views throughout! Definitely recommend venturing here.

Beautiful hike!

We did the Lower Trail in and Upper out. If you are looking for a basic walk in the park take the Upper in and out, for much better scenery take the Lower but be prepared for a much more strenuous hike with climbing up and down. Visited on a weekday afternoon and still lots of people and no opportunity to get nice shots of the falls without people in the water. Lots of kids from VT on the trail.

Just wonderful. Take the lower trail if it's open!

Beautiful hike! Make sure you have $3, exact change per car. The sign said the lower trail was washed out but it no longer is. It's easily passable. I figured if I ran into an area that was washed out and impassable, I'd just turn around and take the upper trail. The rocks were slippery so I took it slow. There were very few hikers on either the upper or lower trails before 1pm. As I made my way back, on the upper trail, there were quite a few people. Everyone was friendly. the upper trail is well marked if you leave the observation deck going up the little winding stairs. Once you get to the split it's well marked which way to go for the parking lot. It was a hot August day and I could have used a second water bottle or a Gatorade. I enjoyed this hike very much. I'd agree it's moderate on the lower trail but probably easy/moderate on the upper trail. The falls are spectacular. I didn't swim because the signs warned it was potentially dangerous and I was hiking alone.

favorite hike!!!

Most of these reviews seem to be talking about Bald Knob, which isn't actually included on this listing/map. Bald Knob is great - see the separate listing for that hike. As far as this loop, I'm not convinced that it really exists anymore. We followed the map for about a mile when we started seeing signs that said "Keep Out - Shooting Range." It was ambiguous as to whether they were talking about the road or the surrounding field, so we walked for another half mile to an old cabin with a nice overlook. There was a friendly worker there, but when we asked him whether it was safe to continue on our loop, he didn't know of any trails in the direction we were heading. As we would have been headed directly to a shooting platform, we decided to turn around. We tried a couple of the intersecting trails on the way back (Jungle Trail & Upper Doe Run), but they were overgrown and not easy to follow. I did notice some blue blazes on trees which made me wonder if this area might get more traffic in the winter from snowshoers and cross-country skiers. The area is pretty, but this particular loop wasn't possible to follow.

A beautiful, forested hike to an impressive waterfall. We arrived at 8:15 on a Sunday morning and were surprised it wasn't too crowded. Be sure to bring $3 (exact change) for the parking permit (or you can use your national parks pass/America the Beautiful pass according to the government website). A sign says the lower trail to the falls is closed currently, but we saw folks on it. The trail to the observation area above the falls is currently locked. Part of the trail about .1 from the falls is washed out, but you can easily scramble through it (or go above it as others have done). Highly recommended hike!

Worth the climb

Great trail even in the rain, take the upper trail up and the Lowe trail down.

This is absolutely beautiful! The route up is steep but the way back is so quaint and pretty. The falls are gorgeous and when its warm, the water feels amazing!

Absolutely beautiful hike and location. This was my first hike in Virginia and it did not disappoint

Beautiful area but the trail on a Saturday morning was very crowded and the parking lots filled up by 9:30 am. There is an entrance fee to enter park but it is included with a national park annual pass. I would recommend going either on a weekday or early morning on the weekend. The beauty is worth the crowds though

Our hike was cut short because of the ever fickle recent August weather. I still managed to enjoy and take beautiful photos though. My friend who goes to VTech recommended this place and I was sold immediately after I saw the photos she took this past winter season. Will definitely come back to finish the hike and see the frozen falls next year.

Lower falls trail closed, but took the slow climb on upper falls trail. Trail is wide and good for groups, kids, and dogs. Waterfall is gorgeous. Was not too crowded on a weekday afternoon — but I could imagine the worst on a weekend. Highly recommend the trail for an easy hike for regular trekkers or harder hike for this less experienced.

Lower Trail was closed due to wash out areas from rain. Had to go up and back via upper trail.

What a great, well maintained area. Relatively easy hike. So many little falls and pool areas to see. Amazing.

The falls are stellar. Just incredible.

Go. Now!!!

Great payoff for a short hike! Spectacular views!

We had a wonderful hike. We hiked on a Sunday afternoon so it was a little crowded. Overall nice hike for the family

Beautiful scenic hike on the lower trail. Lots of shade which made the 90+ heat enjoyable. The falls and swim at the end made for a very rewarding journey.

Cascade Falls is a really nice hike to a waterfall approximately 66' in height. You are treated to a number of smaller falls on the way up. What I really liked about this hike, though, is that almost the entire hike follows the creek, so one enjoys the peaceful sounds and sights of flowing water the entire hike. There is an alternate (upper trail) route that one can take as well if interested in doing a loop versus an out and back. The trail is incredibly well maintained. I would rate it moderate to easy.

I highly recommend it.

We loved it! Went with my 72 year old Aunt and she was a trooper!
