A rustic and isolated walk in the woods, mostly single track over gently rolling hills. A bit overgrown and buggy, but very peaceful because of it too. Didn’t make it to the cabin since this was a bit too much for our (young) kids but may try again in cooler weather when it’s not quite so green.

Easy hike. Pretty flat with a couple of very short inclines.

This trail is a knee-killer! Did it in 8.5 hours but was absolutely gassed by the end of it. Conditions were beautiful, trail was shaded almost the whole way. Only criticism is the lack of views until you get to the northern section near Bears Den. Would recommend this to more experienced hikers and back packers unless it was split over two days

Not a bad hike to see Myron Glaser cabin. From the Ashby Gap parking, it was exactly 2 miles from there to the front porch of the cabin (4 mi RT). Follow the AT north until you see the sign for the cabin pointing left. From there about a quarter mile or less. Ascend up after the stream and you can't miss the stone cabin. Other than that there's not much to see. Rather boring and grown in.

Really nice trail. Park on Liberty road to avoid the danger of crossing 50. The first mile is all uphill, but then it flattens out for most of the remainder of the hike. The old trail is beautiful and I only ran across one other person on it. When I got into Sky meadows there were maybe a dozen or so people. The view at Whitehouse was great. The whole loop took me about 3 hours. Overall, this is a really nice trail.

Great moderate hike. Taking the Whitehouse loop is well worth it for the overlook. Echo the point below on parking, definitely worth it to park on liberty hill rd. Trail can be picked up at the base of road there and saves you from trying to cross RT 50.

Great hike during COVID social distancing. Fairly quiet for a Saturday hike. We saw people at the overlook but not many. I had a face mask but barely needed it. A great way to spend the day! I recommend.

Easy and adventurous for my 5 and 7 year old. We planned to go to the cabin since we thought it was a 3.6 out and back... but at the 2 mile mark we didn’t know how much further the cabin would be... so we turned around. We saw a snake and swore we heard a bear growl along the way too :)

Definitely a moderate hike with a fair amount of elevation. One beautiful, scenic overlook, but aside from that all woodland. Gets confusing in parts - near the beginning we had to jump a gate to get on the other side of the trail.

Great hike with my 3 and 5 year olds. Closer to 4 miles round trip. The trail is mostly flat and in great condition. We loved the creek crossings!

This was definitely an old route. I made a right on the North Ridge Trail to the Piedmont Overlook Trail and back down. Nice loop and happy I got the chance to check out a trail I haven’t been on before. Gap Run is all uphill, not rocky.

We liked this trail. Not much scenery but we figured that would keep people off the trail as we are still doing our best to socially distance. Some muddy spots but nothing too terrible. The walk in the field was nice but bring your sunblock! Trailhead parking was kind of hard to spot if you weren’t looking for it. It was a good workout, we are glad we did it!

Trail was more like 6 miles out and back than 3.6 miles. Beautiful trail, well marked and shaded by Forest. Cabin at the end has a nice bench and picnic table. Not heavily trafficked at all, ran into maybe 10-12 people total. Took about 2.5 hours out and back. Moderate trail.

Definitely moderate-plus, especially the first uphill mile after crossing Route 50 and the last 1/2 mile from Route 50 to the parking lot (rocks, roots). Both sections provide a good workout. Don't let the "moderate" rating catch you off-guard. Many hikers who look for "moderate" trails may be surprised.

Parking a bit challenging by noon. Lots of people first section to Bears Den Overlook. Great stream stops for dogs and kids along route to shelter.

Great variety and nice to do a loop on the AT! The parking is horrendous though, we scraped the bottom of our car, park at the bottom parking lot instead!

beautiful hike, lots of wild flowers, creek and rock crossings which made the hike adventurous. the hike is easy with some up hills, thankfully the up hills level off quickly. nice cabin with front porch swing and fire pit where we took a picnic break before heading back. excellent hike, very much recommended.

Beautiful trail lots of wildflowers and trees. I would recommend parking on 50 at liberty hill vs the lot this directs you to. Easier parking and you don’t have to hike across 50.

The map is incorrect on AllTrails. Perhaps years ago Gap Run Trail ran somewhere else, now it’s more away from the falls. So, follow my direction. This was a wildflower hike and there were some beautiful ones today. I really enjoyed it!

Great trail, the parking lot at trailhead is a little bit hard to find. If your car is low chassis, be careful when you enter the lot.

Great hiking, on the challenging side of moderate. I took the overlook trail first which I recommend. Shadier and more difficult, so gets your heart racing if you’re looking for a workout. Second half of the loop is really enjoyable, even and graded through beautiful meadows. The overlook has a great view of the valley.

Easy to moderate with the 3 year old twins. They loved the creek crossings and walking around the old cabin.
