Great loop for trail running!

Bring bug spray! The mosquitoes are terrible. There is a small beach area on the river called "Sandy Beach" which my son enjoyed putting his feet in, but the trail is horribly maintained on the way down from the marking lot. The rain washed a lot of the gravel path away leaving trenches, but no one has filled them in. This trail is really only good for getting in trail volume if you are doing a challenge, but not good for scenery, and in current condition, not really good for anything else.

Love this trail, we are also disappointed that they no longer allow dogs. We rarely meet people on this trail but the few people we have met, like us, had a dog. VERY disappointed to get there this week with our dog and have to turn around and leave! Otherwise this is a nice trail.

Love taking my dogs here great spot

I used to come here quite a bit with my pups. They have nicely maintained, simple trail loops. Recently they’ve changed their policy allowing dogs so I won’t be returning anymore. I’m sure it would be a nice place to take children!

Great hike. Definitely will be back in the near future.

Love hiking this trail.

I work in palmyra so its perfect for me to walk during lunch

Well maintained trails and a lot of them. We've been there three times and always go a different way.

Very nice trail with several shorter paths to cut through. Nice for dogs of all sizes. Also connected to a nice dog park area.

Nicely maintained trails with plenty of shade. Like many others, we had this trail to ourselves on a beautiful summer day. Ponds are a little grown up at the current time. Will be returning again in the fall.

Good trail. Decently marked with other trails that break off of the main loop. I didn't encounter any other people and only seen three box turtles.

I love this trail and I love this park. I rarely see any other people on the trail and if I do it's usually horseback riders on the weekends. I love that these trails are off leash for dogs. My dogs LOVE to run and explore and swim in the river. I wish there was a park like this near every city I have lived in

Some reviewers are questioning the mileage. I think the mileage was about right if you did it all.

Nice easy 3 mile trail that is less than 2 miles from my home. Haven't met anyone on the trail and rarely see cars in the lot when I drive by. This won't challenge anyone but I like it because it's so close to home.

First hike in my new area! It's Scheier Natural Area, a 35 minute drive South from Charlottesville.

Pros:
The drive is beautiful.
It's flat, which is nice for deconditioned people like me. It could also be good for sprints.
There are two loop options, 3 miles and 1.5 miles.
There are no other people here, so it would be a great place to walk a dog off leash.
It runs beside a stream. There is also an offshoot that has a picnic area overlooking three man made ponds.

Cons:
It's flat, which is kinda boring.

it's not 7.7 out and back, it's about a 3 or 4 mile outer loop with inter twining trails.

I have hiked this trail many times. I have never encountered other hikers on the trail. One of the interesting features on this trail is across the road from the parking area - a series of connected terraced ponds that overflow from one to the next. This is a good trail for beginners.
