Off Road DrivingGreat!

Great trail, two jeeps, 5 humans, 1 pupper. We arrived around 6:00 pm Friday 10/16 to the larger site about a mile in. You will earn your pinstripes as others have mentioned. However, this post is a reminder more-so than a rating. For the love of the mountains, please put out your fire. Two kids in a Hyundai suv stayed the weekend and as we left out about 1:00 pm we drove past the site they were in. The fire was still smoldering. We stopped along with someone behind us and used every bit over water and ice we had in our coolers to put it out. If you do not carry extra water with you for these trips, then don’t start a fire. This is how trails get shut down for good.

Off Road DrivingGreat!

Fabulous fall colors throughout. We started in W Virginia, took Rough Run Rd, many creek crossings but easy to navigate with the 4-runner. Then up to Long Run Rd. Enough excitement for kids without much difficulty. Followed Long Run until it’s end in VA.

My wife and I are beginner off-roaders. We have a stock Nissan Frontier Pro4X which we plan to upgrade as possible. We watched some YouTube videos to get some basic knowledge. We purchased a few essential supplies and decided to make this our first off-road adventure. Obviously, we chose Peter's Mill Run because it is rated as easy. We took our 16 year old son and 10 year old grandaughter. We all had an absolute blast! The trail had different types of terrain to get our feet wet (and tires). There were many different types of vehicles on the trail so you get a lot of ideas for upgrades. Plus many of them were pretty impressive! Other off-roaders were so courteous and friendly. Can't wait to check out more trails, but definitely want to come back to this trail! Also, we camped at Creekside Campground which we loved and visited Luray Caverns which all made for an incredible 3-day weekend!

Me and my sons did this trail for the first time yesterday in my stock JL Sport. It was a lot of fun! To reiterate what others have shared, it's very rocky, has a couple satisfying climbs, and is a good 1.5-2h from start to finish. It was pretty busy with Jeepers and people on bikes and quads, but not irritatingly so. We went south to north and although you can go both directions, we only encountered a few vehicles going the other way. If (when) we do this again, we'll take the same route. If you went north to south, you'd miss out on a couple very fun hills. We picked up our day pass at Big Apple Exxon in Edinbug ($5) and easily found the entrance of the trail off Edinburg Gap Road/675.

I did this trail on October 3. I drive a 04' Jeep Wrangler, 4" lift on 33 M/T tires. It had rained for a few days the week leading up. The first section (Coal Rd) is a fairly smooth gravel road. Once you pull off Coal Road, the rest of the trail is very rocky. There are multiple water holes throughout the trail. Some of them have dry bypasses and some have a shallow side. One water crossing came up over my 33" tire by a couple inches. All the water holes and trail are all firm bottoms, not much mud. I will definitely be returning to this trial more often than the others in VA.

To begin, we never found the trail. (Almost every path/road that goes off of Rapidan Rd was blocked by a locked barrier) We passed by the Rapidan camp site and reached the end of the road, no trail in sight. There are no signs so you’re totally on your own finding it. Luckily, Shenandoah National Park offers a lot of other trails and we had a great time driving on other roads which in some spots are just as difficult as a trail.

Awesome trail but be very careful in stock vehicles. Did it in a mostly stock Tacoma. Made it trough most of the trail including mud “puddles” (some of which are hood deep) without issue. Took a bad line on a spot with a lot of exposed rock towards the end of the trail and got high centered. Got winched by a Good Samaritan.

Beautiful Scenery. A few very nice camp sites. very easy drive. Honestly any vehicle could do the main drive. 4x4 not required.

Awesome trail. This was my first real trail. Did the trail in my '20 Rubicon Diesel. Stock apart from my winch install. I did deair the tires. Many rocks and obstacles but only scrapped once. The most difficult part is the mud holes. There are videos online of people getting stuck but it hasn't rained in a week or so and the holes weren't too deep. Be cautious as I did almost get stuck in one and most don't have a bypass. You either go through or turn around. I did not require my winch. The path is very narrow so even with a Jeep you will get pinstripes and if you encounter others going the opposite direction you'll need to find a pull off. Amazing campsites and a huge one near the start from Blue Ridge Parkway large enough for a group. I'll definitely be going again.

Great Jeep trail. Completed on 9/17/2020. Ran it in a stock Gladiator sport. Did not have issues, but it was dried out a little so did not have issues fording the “ponds”. It was a gorgeous afternoon. I did get some nice pinstripes as the trail is overgrown in places. It was cool to go through a rhododendron tunnel.

Off Road DrivingFloodedMuddyRockyScramble

2018 Tacoma TRD off-road, 3 inch lift, 33’s on 17 inch wheels. Mobtown skids and sliders Rode 9/12/20 in light rain, some sun. Made it through today, but barely. Went solo (just my wife/copilot) - which is NOT SMART. PLEASE DO NOT BE DUMB LIKE ME. Saw only one other vehicle the entire day on the trail - a full size Dodge with leveling kit and 35’s. Had to have been extremely narrow for him in spots. I went north to south. He went opposite direction. The rocks were great. Taco did fine. Used multi-terrain select a few times and it performed great. A few mud puddles / ponds / whatever you call them were extremely scary. Was terrified I wouldn’t make it through the biggest one. Water came over the sliders but below fender thank god - as I do not have a snorkel. Crossing the big one solo may have been the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in my life (and that list is long) This could be a ton of fun if you are with a group - and someone in the group has winch and proper recovery gear (and maybe a canoe)
