Did this trail with my 17 month old daughter as the first trail she walked on her own. She walked about 0.21m and then went in the carrier (not bad!). It’s a very easy hike with benches along the way. It has beautiful flowers and a lot of wildlife. We saw a deer and a rabbit closeup. Very nice for my daughter to see.

The day we hiked, we only saw a handful of people. A nice walk to the overlook. Beautiful scenery.

Beautiful trail. Only had a short time to explore. Watched a doe cross in front of us. Intended to hike the Pass Mountain trail, but went the wrong direction on the AT trail.

The Stony Man hike is a short and mildly uphill climb to a rocky summit. The rocks at the summit are very uneven and difficult to navigate so people really have to take turns to get out to the edge but the view is great. this is a fast hike in that you can reach the summit in about 20-30 minutes so you can spend more time enjoying the view.

We did this hike today - did not quite get to the Knob as we heard thunder (our timing was impeccable). We were confused about previous posts about trail marking. The initial trail from Crisman Hollow Road has been recently marked with yellow blazes. After 1.5 miles you come to a 4-way junction. Follow the orange blazed toward Gap Creek Trail. As you top a rise shortly after 2 miles the purple blazed trail leads off slightly right. There is a large cairn there as well as a painted purple blaze. At this point the purple blazes are primarily on rocks - some are faded. It was an OK hike but between haze and having to scurry back down, we did not feel it was worth more effort. On the plus side, we saw not one other person.

Trail head is very close to lodge, big parking lot! Beautiful, easy trail with great views. Extremely busy on at the top!

Great summit view

Took the trail yesterday with my wife. Hiked to Little Stony Man and then up to Stony Man. Wow!! A terrific hike for almost anyone. Met some rock climbers at Little Stony Man and people from all ages and sizes up at the top. Fantastic views. Lots of birds and wildflowers. A not to be missed adventure for all!

Pretty serious uphill climb early on over a rough fire road. The last segment along the ridge of the mountain is absolutely spectacular. Several amazing areas where someone has camped.

Driving from Houston to Maryland and just had to get out of the truck and stretch my legs. Found this trail from the rest stop and just had to tackle it. Wow what a view. First two miles is jeep trail and pretty boring, except it's a consistent climb. Most the elevation change is in the first two miles. The last mile-ish is where the real fun begins and you start with some easy rock scrambles (flat, not really climbing) and right at the end you get a few rock ledges to "climb" up on. Only the last 500' or so present any real challenge. I would say this is one of the easier HARD trails you'll find. The views at the end are amazing. There is a buzzard nest in the rocks at the end, don't let them scare ya too much. Take some pics and head back to base! Trail is well marked but would be tough in dark for last mile of the ascent.

A very nice little hike for families with kids. Well traveled. Some folks had dogs, contrary to regulations, but fortunately not too many dogs on the trail. Parking area has about 50 spaces, with 15 or so long enough for a large pickup or van. No space for a trailer/camper, though. Good views of the valley from the top of the loop!

Always a favorite at Shenandoah National park. It is a very easy trail to a beautiful rocky outlook with a few viewpoints. Easy grade. There is a great educational pamphlet you can get for $1 at the base of the hike, it has numbered spots and a bit of trail history and education. This hike is right at skyland’s entrance and is walkable from the cabins and to the restaurant. This hike is lovely all times of the year. Keep an eye on little ones near the rocky outcroppings.

Fine trail. Not a lot of views, but there are some. Clockwise will be a fun mountain bike ride when dries out. In spring (April) when I did it there was a lot of spring streams which was nice for the dog. Definitely wear good waterproof hikers in spring but hear it dries out in summer. Two large streams for water along the way at trailhead and 1/2 way. Was nice to rinse the dog before ride home. Several campsites along access road if traveling a ways. Cheers

It earned its level of difficulty and not for the beginner hiker. I would not consider this a bushwack. The trail is rocky and has some scrambled and rock climbing. Focus in on your inner gazelle. Some of the purple blazes have been repainted. Others are plastic pieces or cup lids nailed to a tree. I completed this as a solo hike. Don't let other reviews scare you from completing this trail. Just know your abilities before proceeding. The views at the end are phenomenal! I will hike again but enter from the Massanutten Trail. From Scothhorn Gap it's basically a fire road.

My husband & I went up to take a break from the grind and enjoyed it so much we drove back from PA the next day with the kids to have ourselves a sky picnic and a little nap... Couldn't ask for a better experience but bring layers for the wind

So amazing, decided to do it twice... sorta.

Very nice short hike with a great view! One spot was very narrow slightly washed out making it difficult to pass, but added more excitement to the trail. Heavily populated hiking trail so a lot of squeezing pass others.

Super easy! Great for a short, relaxing walk in the woods that ends with a gorgeous view.

Good trail worth the view

could be marked a bit better but overall great for kids and was passable in January, great overlook

The government is shut down right now. We decided to hike up to little stony man overlook with the dogs, and that’s the extent of my rule breaking lol. This trail is easy peesy lemon squeezey, round trip was a total of about 30 minutes, I will definitely be hiking up here again!

Good hike but also nothing special.

Did this trail with my Husband in October. The view was incredible. The summit is small and windy but breathtaking. Highly recommend
