Pretty trail along the river. The trail is large and well maintained. It’s flat and not heavily trafficked. You are about 30 feet from a river to one side and have beautiful trees and rock walls on your other side. Very easy trail for all skill levels.

Pretty walk through VMI and parts of WNL, while still in the woods. Nice creek along the way and beautiful scenery.

Hard trail - steep with lots of skree - view in summer a little constrained but imagine late winter / early spring would open up some views- definitely go again

Strenuous uphill trail leads to amazing views on the Big House Mountain trail. Took me about five hours round trip. Extremely quiet, low traffic. Beautiful rhododendron thickets towards the top that would be lovely to see in bloom. The red marked trail at the top is quite overgrown, easy to lose the trail in some spots. There’s a run down cinderblock hut along the red trail on the ridge. It’s been vandalized and gave me the creeps, but it would be good for shelter in a storm. Will be doing this trail again.

Wonderful trail. My family and I enjoyed our time walking on this trail. Great for small kids. Our children are 7 and 5

The cows and gates are half the fun. We rode mountain bikes and enjoyed the ride. Don’t do this on a road bike

Great day hike. There are great views at the peaks and ends of both Big and Little House. It does get very humid here in this part of VA so recommend an extra pair of clothes or at least socks and a few liters of water. A lot of deer on the road to the parking lot so be careful. Enjoy

Hiked on 6/29/18. Beautiful 180+ degree view at the top. Well worth the work. We did not see the goat.

Incredible view! The sight from the summit is worth how difficult the incline intensity is while hiking up. Found the goat and hammocked at the summit till sunset. So beautiful, just make sure you're in shape!

Excellent hike, enjoyed the Big house trail and especially the exceptional views. It is about 6.5 miles from the parking to the overlook of Big House and back.

nice easy walk

Easy nice beautiful hike. Had dog on leash went 4 miles out and back. Some runnners cyclists but no conflicts. This is a wide well kept rail trail I would say. Runs along the river.

We hiked only to 'Big House' (~1.7/Out-back) to Goat Point Overlook. The VMI cadets hike with their rats up here every year. Gorgeous overlook. Parking at trailhead is limited. Quite steep in some areas! Saddle (where Big and Little House trails split) was beautiful with lots of yellow wildflowers (August)

The hike up to Big House was pretty difficult especially the last half mile from the saddle. We also went straight at the saddle instead of to Little or Big on the game trail. Not a great idea. The others are pretty though.

Fun family adventure with little ones.

My wife and I did little house this week and it was tremendous! While it was more climbing and slightly more difficult than we anticipated, it was by far our favorite hike in the seven days we spent in the area! Would highly recommend it. We hope to make it back in attempt to find the goat!

Easy walking trail. Lots of spring wildflowers! Beautiful scenery. We walked through gated private property with cows, and the cows were laying on the trails. We just walked around them . They didn't bother us. The trail follows the water most of the time. Geese were fighting in the water over a female. That was interesting. Well maintained.

Nice walking, running trail. Wide trail. Goes through some cow pastures so watch your step. Great starter trail or a just need to get out. Pet friendly.

This is my first hike since moving to Virginia and the Rockbridge area. It definitely was a tough one! For the first mile or so you're on gravel and going up steadily. It really gets hard once you get to the saddle, which is a nice resting spot. From there you can go on Little House or Big House. Since Big House was supposedly easier we took that trail, but it was definitely not easy! It's a steep, rocky incline that had me regretting going hiking today... but the view when you reach the top is worth the climb and the walk back is very easy as it's totally downhill.

Overall maybe not the best trail for a novice like myself, but it's worth it for the view and the workout!

This is my favorite hike of all time. If you live in Lexington, you have to do this hike. The hike to the saddle is difficult but not as difficult as the hike to either big house or little house. Big house is an extremely steep but short hike with FANTASTIC VIEWS! Little house is also a little difficult but again fantastic views. Don't let this hike intimidate you, it's worth every minute!

Although I've hiked house mountain over 10 or so times, I've only seen the goat once (my fifth trip). It was amazing. The goat led me and my sister to the top of big house, and took several pictures with us! When we left, it even led us partially down big house mountain!

My wife and I did the Little House portion. After the saddle, the real hike begins. Thanks to the good folks who maintained the trail up to the switchbacks. After that there's a challenging scramble and some bouldering. The hike along the mountain ridge to the viewpoint seems a lot longer than expected after the climb to get there but the view is spectacular.

I haven't done all of this trail yet and am only in this area for a week, so don't know if I'll get to hike it all, but I did do a 5 mile RT hike on it this evening and it's beautiful. Very well maintained. Mile markers every 1/2 mile. Beside the river. Rock walls next to the trail. A few other walkers and runners, but a nice respite from people and cars. Birds singing.

Great trail! Big house is easier then Little house (steeper climb). Great views from big house!

Great hike along with a great workout. If you are doing both trails, recommend you do Little before Big. Views are awesome.

Awesome. Had the entire trail to ourselves. Did Big House this time. Will do Little House next time.
