we walked a combo of the west half the lake loop to where it meets the cliff walk, then up the cliff walk southward. maybe 2 miles total or less. the cliff walk north would have been easier. we had to scramble over some rocks in spots. our German Shepherd didn't like it either but it was only for about 1/4 mile. nice lake views on Oct 16 2018. leaves were Stillwater green. trail a little wet and rocky.

The exposed roots made it feel a lot more dangerous than what I was anticipating as an “easy” trail. The surroundings were pretty and the egrets were everywhere!

Very easy trail around a lake. Plenty of ppl, dogs, and even stroller traffic. The path is wide and allows for you to get around people if needed.

Good for walking, not really a hike at all. Dog friendly, but a leash is needed. Interesting history of the local coal mines.

Good place, small parking lot, lot of history nice for small hiking

There is a new interactive ecosystem guide for this area at https://centerforurbanhabitats.com/rmnawebmapintro/

The city has a new trail mobile app under the Charlottesville/ParksandRec app that includes ragged mountain trails.

great scenery, loop is perfect for a nature walk

I’ve gone numerous times with my GSD to this trail. It’s a medium difficulty trail, and probably the one I recommend the most. There are several places where my dog stops and hops in the lake for a quick cooldown. You can see some wildlife (my sister had a deer just walk up to her). Plenty of dogs and people, with clear markers telling you which mile you are at along the trail. Beautiful views of the lake along the way. One of our favorites!

A great weekend trip. We definitely underestimated the number of river crossings. I suggest water shoes or be prepared to stop and take your boots off and put them back on once you cross. The crossings were an inconvenience but they made the trip interesting. I will do this one again.

great trail!

Loved the side trails. Beautiful! Went on a weekday and there were few people.

A nice easy loop around the lake.

Overall easy trail with very little views. Boring to hike

I run here all the time. Great trail that’s mostly flat and wide enough for multiple people. Perfect family trail and the marina has a carousel and mini golf in the summer.

Beautiful scenery and sunset plus the amazing smells of the lodge restaurant!

Nice hike through the woods. The lake offers nice views along the way. Clearly marked the whole way through. Very nice way to get out and spend a couple of hours.

This was a pretty good hike for new and experienced outdoor goers. My kids are 10, 8, and 3 and they did fairly well. The three year old said it was amazing (as she rode on my back lol). This past weekend was in the mid to upper 70s and so it was super enjoyable without being too hot. Bugs were at a minimum. Only a few other hikers we passed so not too much traffic. My only complaint is we didn’t realize the hike ended at the overlook, meaning the kids couldn’t actually go to the base of the waterfall. We did that in Washington State where they could throw rocks and explore. So needless to say, they were a little disappointed. But overall, everyone had a good time. We did the blue and red trails and as a side note with the little ones, it took us a bit longer to finish (around 3 hours). Oh, and the trails were not super well groomed...one section had several fallen trees across that we had to climb over.

hiked this trail years ago, and the fall was dry, this past weekend was great you can get 4.5 to 5 mile out of this hike it you want. we took the yellow, to red in, and blue out. we have had ALOT of rain so lots of water where you want in and where you dont, lol. will be doing this again.

not spectacular but pleasant and easy

Amazing. Went to PMI Camp at hiked. Very hard and so 2 timber rattlesnakes. It was fun.

Mostly flat with mild elevation changes. Trails are marked, but can be confusing at intersections. All trails interconnect so you can make it back to your start point.

A few muddy spots, and puddles.

Visitor center had restrooms for quick wash up after activity.

Love this park and easy walk. Feels more like an open area w animals more so then a “zoo”

Not really a hiking trail, more paths for walking than to hike. Not maintained at all, just a short loop by a lake.

Just biked from White Top, down to Damascus, was very new to biking a trail. I had a super fun day of biking, Our trail was about 17 miles downhill, the views were beautiful and the rental place we used was phenomenal, awesome trek, would do it again!

nice and easy trail in the middle of sterling, va. i'm sure i'll be back to either run it or ride it.

Great trail around Burke Lake. Saw waterfowl and deer along the route. Easy access from multiple locations around the lake.
