one of my favorite trails closed to home.

Very short and suburban. It is mostly unpaved and, after bad weather, a lot of areas that are very muddy. The dog appreciated it and it's pretty and close to home.

We came back again :) my labrador loved this place so much!

I love this park and this walk. It’s the perfect length and it’s a lovely view.

Went while they had the Christmas light displays up. It was nice. Very easy walk.

Nice out and back trail with only a couple elevation changes, which works for me as I am a beginner. The trail ends at the dam/spillway into Philpott Lake. Nice views of the lake all along the way, and I'd recommend this trail.

Trail not marked very well

Easy trail to hike with some pretty views. All the mining history was cool to look at.

Thus is good for history buffs.

Beautiful! Clearly marked trail.

Me and a friend hiked this trail on an early Sunday Morning and it was amazing. The view was beautiful and the weather was nice. Not strenuous at all, you could even bring children along. Nice trail about 5 miles.

Beautiful wooded trail! Walked it with my miniature pinscher mix. While it is a relatively easy walk through most of it, there are some sections where it would be very difficult for anyone with mobility issues. Also, a lot of mud this time of year (January) and one part had a small bridge with a couple inches of water going over it. No big deal but be prepared for some mess.
Views are absolutely beautiful! Mix of the lake, marshes, and small streams.

Lovely trail, a bit crowded though. The lake views are pretty. It can be very muddy at places.

Great place to walk back side of lake has a lot of trees down but easy to get around if you like to hike without the crowds this is the place

Great little hike. Our children loved it too.

Always a favorite trail of mine to go to for a quick hike.

loved the scenery and place to have a picnic. the dogs loved the new smells as well. just wish some of the trail was repaved. it was warped in some places and a trip hazard.

Great hike. Challenging towards the top. Very steep in some areas however took my wife and 7 yr old and we loved it.

Great family friendly trail.. Beautiful.

Beautiful, well maintained park. Easy out and back hike. The first part is paved, then boardwalk over the water. The final portion is well-marked trail. Interesting guide markers along with the way. Lots of rocks for climbing. Beautiful water views on both sides.

Nice for the kids. Love the mossy part of the trail.

Great place to walk. Half the trail is the gravel road and the other half are several switch backs on the other side of the lake. During the winter there are plenty of views that available any other time. The best views are from the eastern dam and the boating ramp. Signs state that a day pass is required for access, but I went without. The trail hasn't been maintained in some time. Several trees were down, but I thought it added to the experience. It was pretty soggy due to the heavy rains, but that led to several nice creek crossings. I plan on returning to kayak the lake and get the full experience!

A nice hike. We hadn't been here since the dam was raised a few years ago. (The new configuration makes the hike about 6.2 miles, with a bit more elevation gain than listed.) It was muddy in parts; then again this is January, and it has been recently raining. Signage is better if one goes clockwise: we went counterclockwise, making a couple of intersections a bit ambiguous.

Great concrete trail for outdoor walks. It will puddle heavy in spots after a heavy rain.

Quiet day after the holidays. Trails were clear and clean. Stayed on the paved paths

Enjoyed the walk. Easy trail. Plenty of ppl around so not really recommended for a silent walk. Only some parts are paved, a bit muddy, its better for walking than jogging. At the end had to step in water at the path in front of the dam and get my sneakers soaked but we were near the parking lot so got dry in the car right away.

Love the trails but the dog owners think it's apparently okay to leave lots of slack and let their dogs take over the majority of the path while jumping up on runners. It is very frustrating, demotivating and rude.

Just what my family was looking for. stroller friendly, not too long, not too short, not too challenging. The lake was beautiful and my son enjoyed the playground at the end.
My only complaint was that only one restroom was open and it was the men's and it was disgusting, and not stocked with tp or soap.
Like others have said, it would have been better had it not gone through the residential area.
Overall, enjoyed the hike and would do it again!

We completed the 1st Day Hikes challenge at Claytor Lake. Made it to the overlook. Great trails and well marked. Beautiful day. Happy 2019!
