waterfall is pretty but I don't think this should be listed as easy. As beginner's, we look for easy trails. The elevation of this one makes it far from easy. I am recovering from lyme disease and I've been able to do the other easy trails, no problem. Just be aware if you have any mild mobility issues.

My kids who are 4, 7, and 9 did great on this hike. The hike (which is at the left of the parking lot, yellow blaze) starts off quite utility-road-like but then turns slightly rocky as it goes downhill with several interesting rock formations to the left side. The path then gets softer and seems that it in rain it would have a rivulet down one side of it. The sound of the waterfall got louder as we walked, building anticipation. It was quite an impressive series of small falls dropping into each other given the ease of getting there. The path after the falls did not hold the kids' interest so we headed back. Other hikers said that the path eventually meets the creek again but we had "seen the best of it". There was lots of VA native flora along the way for the interested eye as well as butterflies, a water snake, and a toad.

Nice to see the trails opening back up from Covid. Walk to waterfall (about .6 miles) down was nice as is the waterfall. Beyond that it was a nice walk. End of trail is just into a road with houses so it was a nice walk for the exercise but don’t feel bad about just seeing the waterfall and returning.

The official Nat’l Forest trail starts on Panhandle Rd/SR-613 at a parking area just north of T-bird Ln. Yellow blazes all the way. Intersects with this trail at around 1.2 miles. But that official trail involves lots of high grass and, as a result, lots of ticks, so this route, which is more of a forest road, would help avoid the tick issue. Either way, the trail isn’t that exciting, except that it provides a pretty fast route up to the ridge on Massanutten Mountain. From there, you can head north to Buzzard Rock, with some great views along the way, or south along the ridge of the mountain.

Beautiful view. Cool rock outcropping. Be sure to do the rock scramble past the overlook up to the ridge- this is where the views are the best.

Rocky, uphill, beautiful, close to town.

Nice trail, 1 overlook. We completed it at a brisk pace (about 2 hours). We saw deer and snakes. Watch for ticks, we found a few on us after we left.

Great views. BUT you better get there early- $250 towing bill will ruin it all. Not much else to say. Keens rowing in Front Royal is about another 8 miles

No markings about trail start but once we found it was ok to follow. Clearly has recently been maintained or re-cut with an ATV. It wasn’t clear that we were allowed to be on the trail and we were pretty much the only ones out there which was nice but didn’t help the uncertainty about the trail start. Lots of frogs along the way was a fun surprise.

So thankful to the reviewers who made the suggestion to keep going for the rock scramble to even more beautiful views! Went at 4pm on a cold Saturday and didn’t run into too many other people on the trail. Muddy and hard to cross in some parts but great time. Took 2:15 with the extra scramble and a break there.

If you stop where the map shows, 1.4 miles in, you get a pleasant walk through the woods leading to a nice view to the north. Don’t stop, though! Head up the ridge about 1/2 mile to find spectacular views to the west.
