First part of hike is a good workout since it's all uphill to Buzzard Rock. Then a nice leisurely stroll back downhill to the parking area.Show more

Great hike that departs from Sundog Outfitter in Damascus. After a .4 mile hike from Sundog, hikers will access the Appalachian Trail via a set of stairs on the left side of the road. The first 2 miles takes you up the mountain to the saddle and then along the ridge of the mountain. The next 3 miles takes you from the top down towards Hwy 58 where the trail splits just past a small footbridge. Hikers can elect to go left and continue on the trail or go right and head to Hwy 58 to the Virginia Creeper Trail. For this hike, go left and head towards Hwy 58, cross the highway, and directly on to the VCT. Go right on the VCT for about 4 miles, meandering along the nice creek that runs towards Damascus. After a 4 mile hike, you will return to the Sundog Outfitter.Show more
