Trail typical of most Rails To Trails. we'll graded, smooth, little or no elevation change. Trail follows the Jackson River for almost the full route. Great views of farmlands, trees, etc. we've rode the trail 2-3 times.

Easy ride on hard pack gravel trail with great views of the river and plenty of shade.

Was very maintained and had lots of shade

Unbelievable. So well maintained. Shaded and along the river.

The parking area is about 1 miles in on an unmarked gravel road (Forest Service right-of-way, but unmarked) so it's not at all obvious. Coordinates for the parking area are N37.91345, W80.00401. The gravel road leading in leaves Morris Hill Road about 100 yds SSW of Laurel Mtn Rd (private). The trail is through mixed hardwoods-pine forest with a heath understory and is easy to follow until you connect with Oliver Mtn Trail the next section of which is a little obscure heading west.

The trail head for this is not well marked. Park at the boat ramp near the information kiosk and walk back up the road a few yards. The trail head is marked with a little sign on the other side of the guard rail on your right. The trail itself is not well maintained but it is passible. Good views, great exercise, peaceful.

Four stars based on trails in the area. Beautiful trail which offers great views of the surrounding area. Starting down at the Fortney Boat Launch, trail starts out on what looks like an old road bed. You'll eventually leave road grade and begin to climb till you make the ridge line. Stick with it and this trail pays you back with great views of mountains, lake Moomaw and the dam. For the area, AMAZING! If you would like to make it longer and closer to a loop, you can connect to Jackson trail and come back up FS 192 then back to Fortney. Well worth the hike!

Pretty area. There is some overgrowth but the forest is currently maintaining trails in the area so it's sure to improve in the coming weeks and months. Starting from the "parking lot" (more of a gravel parking circle), it's a steady/ hard climb. If you stick with it (trails connects to Oliver Mountain Trail) you'll be rewarded with mountains views, lake and views of the dam. All in all, it's pretty. It was worth the hike.
