Gem of the area and not enough use or attention. Not only are the trails pretty decent, but the history... CCC era building. Black history in the local NAACP chapter. Take your pick of trails, you won't be disappointed. Chances to turn your day into a nice loop hike.

In all, based on other trails in the area, this trail is pretty nice. It offers some great views of the surrounding area. Awesome rock features dot the ridgeline (big and small rocks). History of the area in unique from old fire tower (where the name of the trail comes from), fire history and the northern boundary is wilderness. Trail was recently cleared (summer 2015) but blazes are sparse. Worth the trip if you're looking for a hike in the area. Only down side...... Gates and access. If the seasonal gates aren't open, plan to have ample time to think because you'll be hiking FS roads to access trailheads.

Our family chose this trail for our Christmas Day walk. It is an easy walk along a logging road which has gradual hills and gentle turns. The recent harvesting of trees lends itself for good views of the westward mountains. We walked this, but it looks like a great ride for an X-cross bike or mountain bike.
