There are many trails in the park. These 2 trails are accessed from the horse parking area. Beaver Pond trail is a 5.35 trail that is for hiking only whereas the Pan Handle trail and its associated loop is a multi use trail that is frequented by horses. Beaver Pond trail appears not to be used much and is poorly maintained in parts due to the amount of old blowdown. Linking both together made for an almost 10 mile trail.

Drove up to VA to hike at Occoneechee State Park two catch a hike. Decided to do Beaver Pond. Looks like the trail isn't very trafficked. About 25% of the trail consisted of tall weeds 12-16" coming and going through the loop. The weeds were loaded with ticks and we spent a lot of time picking them off. The trail needs some work as it has lots of fallen trees. The one redeeming factor is that we saw lots of turtles (one mud turtle and 3 eastern box turtles) and lots of beautiful fungus. Because of the hot weather it was also buggy.

Started down this "trail", was more like a 4x4 path. Lots of ticks. Not worth it.

Cool trail. Has trail markers but distances and winding loops around the lake make it difficult to know proximity.

We did every trail in the park and this one ranked low among them.

I did this last year. We had a cabin at the park and did everything.
