RunningGreat!

Great trail to run and bike on! Pretty flat for the most part. Attention to detail is required as there are many entrances / exits. Overall a great path.

Parts of trail are nice. Others are very muddy and not well maintained. In some parts there is a serious litter problem. Trash is strewn all over the trail and in the water. This includes broken glass, diapers, and beer cans.

Not bad at the beginning but the closer you get to 28 there’s lots of trash all along the river bank. Very unfortunate to see. Buggy and parts are muddy. Could be better with a little maintenance and a clean up.

Nice trail. Some sections end and then you have to cross through neighborhoods to continue. Overall very nice though, lots of wildlife and I felt very safe.

Some parts of the trail were very muddy and slick. Very quiet! We only saw one other person while on the trails themselves.

First to Review

The parking for this trail is easy to miss: look for the Civil War Trails sign as you go southbound along route 28. Park at the historical markers for the Battle of Blackburn's Bluff. and go down the steps to the creek. The trail itself is a ordinary but nice, shady walk along the bluffs overlooking Bull Run. We only saw about 6 people on our 4-mile round trip, so good for social distancing. (Note that on the map, there is a spur trail leading to a Confederate fort by the Westfields gold course. However, once you get to the fort, there is no way to get in to see anything, so don't bother.)

Good just to get into the woods and along a river. Ppl swim. I cooled off after so many miles. Nothing spectacular but it’s mostly quiet and nature filled. Better run/walk/hike than on a road for sure. Didn’t have an issue with mud.
