Like J Burt, we did a good portion of this as part of a 9.5 mile Little Devil's, Pole Bridge, Piney Branch, Hogback, Kaiser Run loop. It was nice and serene. Not terribly exciting, but not everything needs to be :)

Remarks from the Buck Ridge Trail Overseer for exactly twenty years. I helped rescue this trail from planned abandonment in the late seventies. Perfect circuit when coupled with the more attractive and older Buck Hollow Trail. There are, BTW, 612 steps at the bottom. I know. Patrick Wilson and I dug most of them in. Boy Scouts lugged most of the steps up when needed. Patrick was…and may still be…the Buck Hollow Trail Overseer. Of all the Blue Blaze trails along the AT, BRT has the greatest altitude change in a short distance. Something like 1800’ in a quarter mile. Don’t hold me to those numbers. I last did the circuit in 2012 when I was 78 (6 ½ hrs). I love that trail.

great exercise hike. plenty of spots that open up to see some views, took me only 3 hours 10 mins with a little delay . would do again for sure

This is a nice trail the water is beautiful and give off a nice breeze. However this trail has a lot of roots and should not be considered wheelchair friendly (not that we were using one just for reference)

I tagged this onto the Osmanthus Trail. Lovely walk that takes you through swamps, forests, and beachside. This would be an easy trail run. Highly trafficked, but there are numerous benches strategically placed along the water portion that provide a peaceful view and some privacy. Definitely a good place to think. I wasn't excited about the Cape Henry Trail stretch as it was more road-like than trail with a lot of biking and runner traffic, so I used it as an excuse to pick up my leisurely pace to a quick-walk back to the parking lot.

Rode my bike from 64th street entrance to Shore Drive entrance and back ... roughly 7 miles ... nice smooth trail ...

Great hike!

Very nice trail, always see people on it but it's never too crowded. Saw a bald eagle first time on this trail so I'll definitely be back!

The beach is very nice I go there all the time! The trail is also very nice and wide but super buggy in the summer time!

I ran this trail on a 75 degree day in February; that alone could have made it a great experience. Coupled with this was one of the best waterfalls I’ve seen in Shenandoah- about a mile into the trail.

Otherwise, it should be noted that I was mislead by the picture of the knob tagged with this trail. If you’re seeking a hike that will end with a view such as this, look past Stoney Mountain.

This trail was so nice, even on a cloudy day like it was. Not too many people considering it was a Saturday, and we only went a little while down. My friend and I brought our dogs too, and they loved it! I loved the part with the little bridge path!

This is one of my favorite hikes. I love to fly fish and this stream has some of the best brook trout in the park. I uploaded a few pictures of the things you may see on this trail. There are also some nice waterfalls along the trail.

Scenic path around the lake. Heavily used, and you won’t get away from the road noise. However, if you’re looking for something quick, accessible and local to get outdoors for a bit, it’s a good walk.

This is a gorgeous bike and hiking trail that circles Jamestown Island. Goes over marshes, across wooden bridges, and right down to the James River.

Love this trail! We hiked it often when we lived near the area, once in the snow when the reeds were all covered in ice.

Loved doing this loop today! Was able to do the summit of both Stony Man and Little Stony Man in one go. Was a bit muddy and there were parts of the trail covered in ice so be mindful if you’re going during the colder months.

It’s important to mention that this is a trail someone mapped out on their own, on All Trails, it is a combination of the Beach Trail and Little Mountain Trail. Once on the trails, they’re nicely marked and distinguished. Because it seems we hike every trail backwards, by accident, it’s also important to mention that hiking this trail clockwise (heading towards the over look and then to The waterfall) is probably easier. Going counter clockwise isn’t super difficult, it’s just a steady incline for a longer period of time.
Beautiful views at the lookout.

Cool short hike. We went 1/21/18 the lake was still frozen. Stocked trout fishing available (requires special license) several ppl fishing. I’m not 100% sure what trail we took. I think we did Lake loop on one side and the Cliff/overlook on the other. Some elevation on the overlook side but no spectacular view (no actual “overlook” or “cliff”) overall it was a fun loop. Dogs were allowed on leashes. Moderately trafficked for January. Park was closed and no payment required to get to where we hiked.

Hiked the trail Dec. 24, 2017. A good trail for beginner, like myself. Great views of the lake and surrounding homes.

Gorgeous! If you are in this area and you do not check this site out, then you’ve missed out!

Amazing outdoor walls, right on the river, a great day activity for any aged climber.

Beautiful cliffs and beach. My son enjoyed reading the nature descriptions along the way.

Great trail. Hiked two weeks ago with 4 inches of snow on the ground. Will hike again in the Spring.

Phenomenal view at summit. Kid-friendly trail with shallow gradient.

Trails are closed from Nov. 1 - March 31. The beach is still open and the loop at the very beginning, but no real trails during that period.
