Good trail if you want to be eaten alive by mosquitos, there are some turtles too.

A gem! You completely forget that you are less than a half mile from Route 1. Amazingly serene. And there are some great side trails if you feel like exploring.

Visited Labor Day. Great place for an easy hike round the woods. About 8-10 parking places and the Lodge was closed that day. We saw deer and frogs but hardly any people.

So much fun with my son and wife! Seen so many of nature’s gift.. loved it!

Nice trail. It goes into old town. However, I’d rather ride a bike on this trail. Overall, peaceful and nice.

Not Closed! I called and they do sometimes close when weather is bad, but they are still OPEN!

First bit of advice: BE CAREFUL! This is a nice trail, but if you use the section that’s closer to George Washington’s home, there are a lot of narrow, steep, and blind curves.

My first outing on it was eventful, to say the least...I was coming around a narrow and steep curve on my bike, and caught my tire on something. Wiped out, hit my head, and wound up with 6 staples (yes, even while wearing a helmet). Apparently, crashes are pretty common on the trail, especially in the area where I was (per another cyclist who frequents it).

It was pretty crowded on our way back to the car (I crashed with only a few miles left on the ride), but when we got on it at opening (6am), it was pretty clear. Early in the morning is best when it’s nice out. Otherwise, it seems like can get pretty dicey when having to deal with steep, blind curves and crowds.

I will say that if you do have an issue, the other cyclists on the trail are very nice and are willing to help. My husband was about 1/2 a mile behind me when I crashed and before he got to me, three cyclists had already stopped and were waiting with me. One went on his way after my husband caught up after making sure I could walk. The other two stayed with me while my husband rode the rest of the trail back to the car to come and get me. I am thankful for such caring people.

All in all, this trail is worth a go. It is nice and the people on the trail are great. But again, whether you’re a cyclist, runner etc...be very careful.

Very easy, but unique trail you could walk in flip flops. I highly recommend you bring plenty of bug spray as the mosquitoes were out in force!

Scenic, beautiful and rain friendly. Also, love how there are bathroom stops along the way.

As of 6-2-2018. Gate and sign says park is permanently closed.

As of May 31, 2018. This map is incorrect. The trail is closed a mile in. An extremely easy walk though.

Lovely, easy hookup to mt Vernon trail. Pretty

Nice quiet trail with easy walking along blacktop path between Chambliss and Lake Barcroft dam. Five steam crossings with elevated walking stones which are easy to use unless it’s within a day after significant rain in which case stones are underwater. If it’s summer and no recent rain this Stormwater stream runs quite slow. Lots of local birds, wildflowers and ducks. Very peaceful. Trail no longer closed.

So beautiful but very busy. Look out for bikers. They will run you over.

Pretty tame trail, distance and views are cut in half if you want to jog/run or if you bring dogs, it’s not allowed on much of the trail, but still a beautiful scenic trail, a nice get away from everything hectic around it

Currently closed. Doesn’t say why.

Great trail run! As of 3 Oct 17, the trail was closed about 2.5 miles in. I had to take a significant detour to get back on path.

A quaint wooded area located in the back of a subdivision. The main trail is lined with rocks but there are many hidden trails that go deeper into the park towards the waterfalls. Spent about 45 mins there. About 5 parking spots located at the entrance beyond the gate. Enjoy.

Great local trail with two vibes divided by Beauregard St. The trail SE of Beauregard goes toward Old Town Alexandria with an urban and suburban feel, including the ability to stop at restaurants or shops, whereas the trail NW of Beauregard goes through the forest toward Lake Barcroft and then Falls Church. Trail is along Holmes Run which can be a gentle, meandering creek or a heavier storm water flow. This trail changes with the seasons offering year round beauty.

Best little hideaway. Easy family friendly hike! Came here for a quick weekend hike. Love!

This is a nice section of the Mount Vernon Trail just south of Old Town Alexandria. Back when I lived in the area, I enjoyed trail running and bicycling here, with pretty views of the Potomac River and the marsh/wildlife area.

Sucks. The map is incorrect and the trail is blocked at Beauregard.

Such a beautiful, peaceful hike. Easy walk in and out; breathtaking views of birds, beaver. A mood-lifter, for sure.

Short trail. Very pretty; definitely a pleasant getaway adjacent to Rte 395. Park closes at 4, and during the summer there is a day camp going on, which can be disoncerting.
