Nice quiet trail with easy walking along blacktop path between Chambliss and Lake Barcroft dam. Five steam crossings with elevated walking stones which are easy to use unless it’s within a day after significant rain in which case stones are underwater. If it’s summer and no recent rain this Stormwater stream runs quite slow. Lots of local birds, wildflowers and ducks. Very peaceful. Trail no longer closed.

So beautiful but very busy. Look out for bikers. They will run you over.

Pretty tame trail, distance and views are cut in half if you want to jog/run or if you bring dogs, it’s not allowed on much of the trail, but still a beautiful scenic trail, a nice get away from everything hectic around it

Currently closed. Doesn’t say why.

Great trail run! As of 3 Oct 17, the trail was closed about 2.5 miles in. I had to take a significant detour to get back on path.

Great trail. Well maintained. Beautiful scenery.

A quaint wooded area located in the back of a subdivision. The main trail is lined with rocks but there are many hidden trails that go deeper into the park towards the waterfalls. Spent about 45 mins there. About 5 parking spots located at the entrance beyond the gate. Enjoy.

Great local trail with two vibes divided by Beauregard St. The trail SE of Beauregard goes toward Old Town Alexandria with an urban and suburban feel, including the ability to stop at restaurants or shops, whereas the trail NW of Beauregard goes through the forest toward Lake Barcroft and then Falls Church. Trail is along Holmes Run which can be a gentle, meandering creek or a heavier storm water flow. This trail changes with the seasons offering year round beauty.

Best little hideaway. Easy family friendly hike! Came here for a quick weekend hike. Love!

This is a nice section of the Mount Vernon Trail just south of Old Town Alexandria. Back when I lived in the area, I enjoyed trail running and bicycling here, with pretty views of the Potomac River and the marsh/wildlife area.

Sucks. The map is incorrect and the trail is blocked at Beauregard.

Such a beautiful, peaceful hike. Easy walk in and out; breathtaking views of birds, beaver. A mood-lifter, for sure.

Short trail. Very pretty; definitely a pleasant getaway adjacent to Rte 395. Park closes at 4, and during the summer there is a day camp going on, which can be disoncerting.

This is an extremely easy trail. It is entirely paved, with a few small bridges. The trail is most popular for walking, running, and (regular) bicycling. Regular users are considerate of the shared space, and cyclists are good about warning runners and walkers when they are approaching.

It's a very easy trail with a variety of informal trails. When it rains some trails can get flooded, which can limit access and shorten a hike.

Nice easy walk, lots of wildlife. Very shady and soft trail.

Beautiful boardwalk through a marsh. Lots of opportunity to spot wildlife - herons, turtles, deer. Lots of beaver dams but didn't see any beavers. It's pretty and tranquil yet not too far out of the way.

This trail sucks if you wanna walk on a paved path next to a sewer runoff in the middle of a neighborhood then this is your trail. Trail is also closed by 395.

Pretty walk and very easy. The boardwalk leads to a nice view at the end. Heavily trafficked.

I might have enjoyed the ride except that it was freezing. We turned around, vowing to ride the length in warmer weather.

The beauty of the trail amazed me. Especially since it was winter. It was cold so we only rode about half.

Nice respite from the surrounding suburbs. Kids were quickly entranced and invested. We saw several deer at very close proximity. Overall, a pleasant short walk in nature that young kids should enjoy.

For a really local hike, its great! The Holmes Run part is very average. Paved bike path, views of the stream but somewhat dirty. Passing under 395 is a little creepy as some folks were hanging around the long underpass during the day when i went. Once you hit the Dora Kelly Nature Preserve, it is decidedly moderate! If you stay on the hiking trail there is quite a bit of hill climbing and some switchbacks. The trail pops out of the forest and then joins back up with the bike trail that climbs even more. It's quite lovely. Made the slightly icky Holmes run section very worth it!

I always filter my trails by those that are dog friendly. This trail is listed as dog friendly, and it is not. Dogs aren't allowed on most of the trail, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
