Nice hike first 2 miles along river smooth dirt road like path. last mile up to falls a true hiking trail, a little steep an rocky definitely worth it.

Used this trail to get to Hamilton Falls. Great views.
Dam release after heavy rain made it very special.

After 9 inches of rain, the West River was amazing. I knew the falls would be great but they more than fantastic today. The hike down Ball Mountain Dam is always fun with great views but the spray from the release was the best ever.
So, the best part was, just when the hike finished there was a great rainbow!!!

1st two miles were a fairly level, shaded walk along the river. Flowing water sound the whole way. Did not take the left fork to Ball Mountain Dam. The right path is immediately steeper and goes a mile to the top of the falls. Really pretty view. On the way back we took the side trip down to the lower end of the falls. Great 2 1/2 hours of exercise in peaceful scenery.

We came in late so started from the backside at Bald Mountain dam. There’s a small parking lot there. You shave off a mile or so. Nice sounds of the river all along the way.

Awesome hike, almost too easy

Easy hike to a beautiful waterfall.

This hike was beautiful it’s 6 miles there and back and for a good amount of time you are walking along a river. The last mile before the waterfall is an incline but it’s pretty easy. The water fall was awesome!

while camping in the park took the West brook trail which kept my attention until the trail to the falls. certainly worth the trek. I was the only person there for about 45 minutes. was beautiful.

Ok trail and pretty clean. No real challenge though. Definitely a beginner trail. Take the trail to the Hamilton Falls trail head and it’s an awesome hike. Cool views from Dam.

I hiked the overlook and then the Hamilton falls trail with a small group of people last year, and am planning to go again soon. In august there is an abundance of mushroom varieties on the way up. Coming back down to get to the main park entrance is also quite enjoyable, where you walk along a wide gravel path following the babbling brook.

I thought the trail was very well maintained and clean, views from the dam were great!! Have already recommended trail to others. Enjoy!

This was an easy hike to the falls. Fairly shaded as well. Once we reached the falls you can see a rope on the rocks. We climbed up the rocks with rope and there was a grotto like area on top. Would not recommend for children to do this. Fell coming down and scratched up my back. It was a really pretty sight to see and worth the hike though!

First 2 miles are on flat ground alongside the river and then once you turn onto the Hamilton Falls trail you have about another mile to go until you see the waterfalls. Also recommend taking the trail to see the overlook because it's stunning. FYI you need to pay, per person, to get in to Jamaica State Park.

Accessed this through Jamaica State Park, nice trails. Gradual elevation and not at all difficult. Falls were beautiful but it was very busy (kinda took away from the beauty). Top of the falls were really awesome to see too!

I thought this was a great trail to do for a beginner. Pretty flat and scenic for over 2 miles then a 1 mile, rocky, with breaks, hike up that's totally worth the view! I think the lower falls are more scenic but it was super fun and a lot of people at the upper falls as well. There's a road that will take you directly to the falls (West Windham) if you don't feel like taking the long trek. Also took my Boston Terrier and he loved it!

Excellent trail, the water fall at the end of the trail is so worth the trip!

I liked the 1 mile hike up to the falls, but the preceding 2mike hike on the W River trail was a bit boring, tho the view of the river was nice.

Nice walk up to the Falls. Many breaks for this flatlander. Very pretty trail.

I've hiked this trail more times than I can count and it never gets old!! The first two miles are flat, easy and beautiful with the West River at your left keeping you company. There are so many cool geological formations and glacial deposits to marvel at!! Take the Hamilton Falls trail on the right which is about a mile upwards. This is a steady climb and can be rocky and rooty, so watch your footing. If you're here in the Spring, be cautious of the little orange salamanders on the trail. Hiking on weekdays here is nice, way less people. You will see a sign stating more than 10 people have died in the falls, it's more like 14 or 15 now, including a young man who died late this summer. Take this seriously. Respect nature and stay out of the upper pools and don't climb up the falls...I've seen people slip and have close calls. Enjoy the beauty around you...it is so abundant!!

Easy to moderate hike

Thursday, June 16, 2016

The end of the hold is great but the first 2 miles are just along a flat wide boring old logging trail. Not exciting or challenging. The falls are spectacular and the ascent exciting!

This is an awesome hike! Two miles of an easy walk by the river to the trailhead. The hike up to the falls is moderate to steep, with a couple of level stretches. In the spring, there are a few muddy patches, and insect repellent is a must. You may be tempted to climb up the rocks on the side of the falls, but resist the temptation because this is the dangerous part that the signs warn about. You can access the top of the falls by continuing on the trail, taking a left on Hamilton Road, and walking short distance to hook-up with the trail again on your left. For a nice view from Little Ball Mountain, take the overlook trail which branches off from the path along the river. It is worth the view. I hiked on Memorial Day weekend, and was surprised by the lack of traffic on either trail.
