Follow long trail south to the gulch, and for that matter, the gulch lies beyond the graphic trail shown here. We did an out and back on the Long Trail because we could not find the loop (Babcock) shown on the eastern side. Nice trail, impressive Gulch.

Really nice hike! Some fairly steep sections but they're short. Lots of frogs, snakes, and mushrooms!

Great half day hike! Fairly easy and moderate slopes. Nice little ponds that are surprisingly warm, with lots of little fish, salamanders, and frogs. Not a particularly rocky trail, and some nice wildlife signs. The out and back to the gulch is easy and worth it.

I hiked the LT last summer with my best friend from end to end , so returning to the gulch in the winter gave me a chance to reflect back on the hike from the glen birch shelter through the gulch to belvideere Mountain. It was all it was the first time but with awesome winter views of the the gulch covered in ice and snow and the ponds coming in on the LT and returning to the parking lot via the Babcock trail. Highly recommend for a nice day hike with a little bit for everyone, lots of wildlife and views for some great pics.

Would not recommend this trail because my friend and I were chased out of there by a black bear that came out of a tree.

Nice quiet hike-a couple scenic views and the gulch is one of Vermonts hidden treasures that shouldn't be missed

Very easy hike. More of a hilly, narrow trail walk with a couple of steep parts. Lots of wildlife along the way though. Very peaceful and green. GPS had me at 4.11 miles in a little under 2 hours.

Snowshoed here with a friend in 2013 - don't remember if he had been here before or had a map/guidebook, but we had some trouble finding the gulch. Once we did, however, AMAZING ice was there to greet us. Sheets and layers had formed on top of one another, dyed blue and yellow and green from the minerals in the rocks they covered, and what massive icicles! It took a lot of caution however, because with all the snow and ice under foot, there were several chasms you couldn't see. Poles for poking were a must. A year later I went back with my SO, using the Green Mountain Club's winter hikes guide as a reference. Unfortunately the map did not match the written directions, and neither appeared to be accurate. We were not able to find the gulch. I'll be going back this coming winter and trying again. Admittedly we gave up pretty quickly last year as neither of us were feeling that great.

Did this hike with a friend of mine. Was hard to find at first. The trailhead is not far from Belvedere pond. There is an actual parking area, but it is not marked. There is a little sign that says "access" on the road to the parking area /trailhead. At trailhead follow sign for Devils Gulch. This was a fairly easy hike in. It is part of the long trail.

The Devil's Gulch Trail is actually a portion of the LT way out in Eden VT. Parking is available essentially on the side of the road and the trail starts between a gap in the brush on the opposite side of the road. This portion of the LT is admittedly rather simple; you pass mostly greenery and eventually get a glimpse of Ritterbush Pond before heading back into the thick of it. The elevation changes, while overall minor, ascend and descend rather quickly, so there's quite a workout here. Devil's Gulch is a detour if you are planning on doing a day hike and the trail begins at an intersection between the LT and the Babcock trail. Continue on the LT and you will begin an upward ascent for a bit before entering the gulch. It's a beautiful view beginning with two huge boulders leaning on one another and continuing into a rocky area overgrown with trees and greenery. Totally worth the effort to get there!

We headed back to the LT/Babcock intersection and took the Babcock trail back to the road, which drops you about a quarter mile shy of the parking lot (not exactly scenic). The views don't add much to the hike, although you get a couple glimpses of Big Muddy Pond through the trees. If you are planning on taking this loop, I recommend taking the LT both ways and making the hike an out and back instead. Overall, the hike was a nice diversion from the usual mountain ranges we've hiked in VT and Devil's Gulch offers unique views, but I don't think I would make the effort to hike this area again.
