This is a good hike if you’re in decent shape and don’t mind hiking uphill for 2.5 hours. There were only two spots were it really leveled off, other than that it really was uphill in varying degrees. The views are great and totally worth it. I hiked to the White Rock overlook that others have mentioned, a good stopping point. Fyi on the map, it’s about a 20 minute hike after the sharp bend on the map trail. It took me an hour and half to get back down.
I would highly recommend hiking poles for stability. The trail is narrow at some points, packed earth, and there’s plenty of stepping over and around rocks. I wore hiking pants because there’s a fair amount of brush to get through. Also, there’s a fair amount of bugs, a hat and bug spray were a good idea.

Gret amaxing wonderful trail. its a loop one. not hard. Great to families with kids and pats. nice atmosphere of the wild forest. Very very recommended. Its rated as Moderate, however its very EASY. we enjoyed very much (family with 12, 15 years kids)

Nice challenging hike. If you get through the initial climb the remainder portion is fairly easy and nice view!

continued on to congdon’s camp.
out & back.

Parts of this trail are on the difficult side but overall a doable hike considering the distance taking breaks it was doable to get to the Goddard shelter in about 6-7 hours and we are far from being in top physical shape. The biggest struggle is water conservation there’s about a 4-5 mile stretch with no water access without taking a half mile detour to a pond. I would highly recommend doing this hike in late June to mid July if you don’t mind sharing campsites with through hikers we probably met 15 people that were on there way to Maine from Georgia. The views aren’t especially rewarding for how rigorous this hike is

Definitely strenuous hike; from the "White Rocks "to the top honestly really isn't worth the extra effort, the cliffs with the westerly views there are absolutely awesome. Careful footing on the blasted rock areas.

Be aware that the map literally starts this trail on the highway ... look at the other mapping of this trail for parking location. Very strenuous hike.

Awesome strenous trail. Take plenty of water: there are few ascends that will break your sweat. The trail follows and crosses a brook, with number of swampy spots, so wear waterproof shoes. The new trail goes over areas filled with freshly blasted rock, which can treacherous in wet condition. Nothing much to see at the top as its covered with tall bush. But stop by at the summit, for a moment of silence, when you pass by remains of an aircraft that crashed at the mountain few years ago.....

We walked in and out -20 miles - in nine hours. We were moving fairly quickly the whole time with only a few short breaks. Decided to turn around a mile and a half short of fire tower in order to get back to route 9 before dark. Intense bugs in early june. bring bug spray and consider purchasing one of those hats with netting over the face. moderately challenging.
The pros: once you get in a few miles it is not well travelled and feels very remote. no noise except the forest. the con: kind of boring as there are no views during the ten miles walking north from route 9 and the scenery does not change much.

Gorgeous views at the top and beautiful scenery on the way up. Despite being a chunk of the AT, wasn't all that busy on a Saturday in June.

Had a great time hiking all the way up to the summit. Loving Vermont so far! Took us about 2.5 hrs at a brisk pace. The other reviews aren’t kidding, it gets steep at the end.

Do not underestimate this trail. The beginning from rt 9 is a test of your will. A large elevation climb. It is a tough trail in good weather and conditions.

Not an easy hike up but once you get to the overlook, all of it is worth it! Amazing views makes you forget everything bad

Amazing views.

The beginning is steep, rain made it harder than usual, good boots or hiking shores are a must. Once up on the ridge, the hike is easy, the views are nice. If you have packed some sandwiches, the top is a good place to eat and enjoy the vistas.

Great hike! Pretty easy until you get towards the top. Still a good amount of snow on the last mile. Best view you'll get is about 3 miles in. Off to the left an opening. Not much of a view on top but still an a good experience to go up

Hiked this trail with my fiance and my 8 year old daughter. Thought it was a great hike and tough in spots. Getting closer to the top it gets difficult and steep but well worth the view. A lot of water source and camping spots. We will hike this again but in the late afternoon to catch the sunset!

The first half mile will really test your legs. Very steep, challenging, yet exhilarating! After you reach the vista, you are treated to scenes out of a fantasy movie. Be sure to check out the panoramic view just behind the summit sign!

A gorgeous wooded hike in Bennington. I would rate this as moderate to moderate-hard. The trail is wide and mostly well marked. However, there are multiple locations where the nearby creek crosses the trail resulting in very slick conditions. The final third of the trail is very steep. From reviews on here, we decide to turn around at the Bennington overlook instead of completing the trail at the Summit.

If you're used to the nearby Adirondacks, don't waste your time on this one unless it's a nice, sunny day, or you love Bennington. The trail is poorly marked, and the only view you get is of Bennington. The summit offers no views worth remembering. The trail itself is okay once you get about a third of the way in. Nothing to write home about.

great hike for my family it took us 4hr total to the top and back the trail is a more moderate to hard because of the incline and boulder fields u must navigate towards the top. all in all great trail and well marked great views and lots of friendly faces!! well worth the trip!!! ✌️

Tough towards the top, but well worth it!

Well marked trail with a steep incline in the beginning, strenous but not too hard. Great views and dog approved! Good trail for a dog used to trails and has some listening skills and is conditioned a little.

Great loop around the reservoir. Wet in some spots but maintained very well. Very tranquil. Loop took 75 minutes in total.

I hiked here as part of a 65 mile section of the Long Trail I was doing. The hike is was fairly difficult with a lot of ups and downs. The top of Glastenbury has an old fire tower with amazing views in all directions. The shelter is a little ways downhill from the summit. I would recommend returning to the fire tower to watch the sunset after you set up camp.

This trail was pretty intense at the beginning. Lots of rocks and pretty steap but totally doable, just breathe and make it to the top! Once at the top it does clear out to a pretty clear with some areas of tall grass. The veiw of Bennington at the top was beautiful ♡
