Went yesterday in beautiful weather. $6 after Alta resort to drive to the top, but worth it. Also worth it to park at the Albion Basin Campground instead of the Catherine's Pass lot. After Cecret Lake, a tiny section of the service road is blocked and under construction, but don't give up, just follow the lift up the hill. It took us 1.5 hours from parking lot to Sugarloaf peak, but with plenty of rest stops. It took us about 1.5 to get down too, but that's because the hill down the peak on the loop is very steep, but still recommended over going back the way you came because it has switch-backs and isn't as rocky as the way up. It also took us longer because at the bottom of the hill we went right instead of staying left closer to the lake, and that put us back a twenty minute detour. All things considered, you could get up there after breakfast and be done for lunch, but I'd recommend snacks. So beautiful!!!

Nothing super special, but a nice easy hike

Other reviewer is correct..pic of lake for this trail is not correct so don't go just to see a lake.... don't think there is one there. There is a river, some small bridges that cross it, and you get to do a hike that spreads the elevation change(1300+ ft) out across a longer distance so it makes it easier which is pretty cool. I think I actually liked two other things the most...the old broken down stone chapel(I think that's what it is)at the end and the metal contraption thing that everybody has pictures of on here that is powered by water. Despite watching it for 10 straight minutes I have no idea what the heck it's purpose was....but it was fascinating!! Oh..and as a geocacher I need to point out that I found one out there. Have a good one and enjoy the hike if you go!!!! Oh....watch out for the mountain bikers as they come down the trail....they were all really nice and said thanks when I stopped and got to the side, but if some of them hit me going as fast as they were there might not be anything left of me....it looked really fun.....I have gotta try it some day if I can.

The wildflower did bloom early this year. However, if you explore some of the shady area by the river there are still some beautiful flowers in bloom. Albion basin is always beautiful no matter the season. However, on the weekends during the summer it does get a little crowded.

Did the hike from cecret lake the morning or 8/5. We went up and down via the service road (to the right of cecret lake), instead of doing the loop, because my map wasn’t loading. The ascent from the top of sugarloaf lift to sugarloaf peak was very steep and pretty difficult, especially going down- lots of loose rock. It sounds like going down the other side towards devil’s castle is probably easier, so I would try that next time.

This is a really fun quick adventure with kids.

Fun trail and very close if you live in the Salt Lake Valley. You weave in and out of the woods on this trail so about 1/2 the time you are out in the sun so bring a hat. Didn’t find the horse manure on the trail to be a problem at all.

Gorgeous views. A wonderful knife edge scramble that was amazing.

Love this trail, beautiful all the way to the final destination, many places to stop and explore. One thing to be cautious of is bikers!! There are so many.

We were up July 26 and were probably a good 2 or 3 weeks past wildflower peak. Still plenty of flowers in bloom but vast majority have come and gone. I think the Wildflower Festival is this weekend. Going to be some disappointed peepers. Need to adjust schedule for climate change.

Beautiful scenery and area. A ton of wildflowers but they are a little past prime.

First hike with toddlers!

Beautiful views all along the path! And pictures just don’t do it justice.
One we definitely want to do again because we weren’t able to stay long due to not being prepared for the temp drop in the evening.

Great hike, beautiful way to enjoy the area in summer. Ridge trail is breathtaking, although the drop off on either side took it out of the woman in our group who was scared of heights. 4 stars mostly because of what others have said - the trail is poorly marked and the maps are pretty useless. All trails is a great help, since the resorts in the area don't seem to worried about marking summer activities.

We did this hike in the evening and it was beautiful. A very family friendly hike. I would definitely do it again!

I was blown away with the beauty of this trail. The wildflowers are currently in bloom and that was amazing. We started hiking around 8:00pm and were able to get to the top by sunset. The alpinglow off the mountains was stunning. You have 360 degree views of the other peaks and canyons all around.

We only walked one way on this trail today. On the way down, we took the ski lift (mostly as we also went on the nearby Cecret Lake trail, as well). This is our second year on this hike. Since I had read reviews the flowers were already in full bloom, we went on July 8 (2018). Last year we went on July 30. Kind of glad we did not wait as it already seems some flowers are drying out due to the lack of rain this year and also the fact the snow fall was low last year.

Note: Do not go in the midday like we did- the sun was blaring and hot and it made me a tad miserable. The trail starts out with a steady elevation gain, if you aren't used to it, this can add to the misery. Maybe going up on the ski lift and walking down may be a better option. Keep in mind if you go on the lift, you will not go over the meadow where most of the wildflowers are.

You get the picture pretty quickly why this trail is marked as "hard." Immediate incline, mid-way had some flatter spots but then you scramble up a bunch of loose rocks towards the end. Didn't get to the lakes, hailstorm made us turn around. Good workout. Wildflowers on pretty much 100% of the trail right now. Beautiful!

What a gorgeous hike! It has been a dry year, so the wild flowers are already in full swing. I would get up here before the crowds hit hard. Remember you have to pay $7 to drive past Alta parking lot anytime after 7:30 am. I wanted to go from the campground parking lot on the upper trail, but they have closed it off which was a drain for that is a beautiful section. My blog shows 360 stitched images of the area. Check it out for more info. https://shaunasadventures.blogspot.com/2018/07/360-adventure-albion-basion-cecret-lake.html?m=1

The summer road is closed to cars right now. we walked 25 mins up the road which was exposed and hot and we weren't even close to making it to the trailhead.

Perfect first hike of the season. Started at Hidden Hills Park and Hiked south to the extension bridge. It was pretty busy with other hikers. Beautiful views of the valley.

Beautiful! Get ready to climb, because that’s all you’re going to do until you get to the top! : )

The trail itself is very beautiful. There is frequent shade and plenty of foliage, the incline isn’t steep, and it wasn’t very crowded. It’s virtually all sand, and because it’s a horse trail there’s plenty of horse droppings in various stages of decomposition all over the trail, so we didn’t complete the whole trail because my 8-year-old son was too grossed out. There are several trails all parallel to each other at this site, and none of them are really marked so you either have to use GPS or make your best guess that you’re on the trail you actually wanted to be on. On the way back we somehow ended up on a narrow, fairly steep trail instead of on the gently incline we came down. I don’t think we’ll be doing this one again.

The views of the Wasatch are a nice perk but I dislike this trail system A LOT.
1. There is no shade.
2. The trail is made of wood chips.
I set out to do a trail run but only went in a mile and turned around. If you want to run here, I suggest a light weight pair of gaiters to keep the wood chips out of your shoes.
It runs along the back of a neighborhood. Nice part of town. If it had a few more trees and a different make up (like gravel), I would like it much more.
Watch out for the horses and their poop.
Did on a Sunday morning. Saw a bout 10 people on foot and 6 or 7 on horse back.

Saw a coyote on the way in! Went on to Cecret Lake and given the road closure at the start, this became a long hike. Splendid though and the wildflowers were gorgeous

Great hiking trail just make sure to carry plenty of water. Views are espectacular. You can ride the gondola down for free if you reach the top. The trail is not that well marked.

I would say this hike is more on the easy side instead of intermediate. Beautiful wild flowers. We went in the evening and there was some good shade

Very pretty and easy

Level trails that follows where an old aqueduct/canal was built. The trail is flat and easy. There are several side trails and it also connects with the Alpenbock Loop trail at the half point and the western end

This is a very pretty area and this trail leads to others you can do later. There is still some snow right now so it's a little muddy. Even though the wild flowers haven't bloomed yet the views are beautiful! =)
