Nice easy trail with great views of Deer Valley and Park City. The loop is called Gambel Oak on AllTrails but if you park and start on Aerie Drive, just off Deer Valley Dr, the marked trail to follow is Lost Prospector. Follow these signs for about the first 2 miles before you’ll start to see Gambel Oak trail signs. We saw a female moose on a late afternoon hike, October 13th. There’s a short cut back to the Aerie Dr parking spot if you use gps and follow Lost Prospector trail signs again for the last 1/2 mile or so. We prefer this to walking along DV Rd at the end of this 1.5 - 2 hr loop.

Such a wonderful time of year. The trees are beautiful. We went up Armstrong and down Dawns and it was perfect.

So pretty with the leaves. The dogs loved it. Not too many people on Dawns but as soon as we crossed over onto Armstrong there were more people hiking/biking.

It was beautiful and quite shaded on our way down, but the first half is very rocky—lots of loose rocks too! It made it a bit of a challenge going up and even more so coming down. The most difficult part of this trail is the initial ascent because it’s a consistent, unrelenting incline, but the latter half has beautiful views of the ski slopes/PC and you can even see a lift towards the top!

There are a lot of trails/roads in the area, so this is just one possible loop. The description above pretty much tells the tale. This area is familiar to anyone who skis at Park City Resort. You hike up to the top of the Payday lift and then down to the base of Bonanza, where there are two large abandoned buildings. You can actually go into the lower one from the trail. It's full of rusted metal and probably ready to collapse. What could go wrong with that? There are so many trails going off in various directions, and some closed routes due to construction, that I really needed the map to get back to my car in a timely fashion.

Did it during fall. The rocks up the the waterfall cave were pretty slick. Good hike for the whole family.

Had a hard time finding the trail head from Main Street. Ended up parking on aerie and that worked well. Trail isn’t well marked so relied on gps. Good views. But downside is the final stretch is on busy Deer Valley Drive.

Almost impossible to find trail head... Easy to get lost with trail markings ripped off. Not much to see and many bikers

Beautiful this time of year. I was just driving over guardsman and saw trail head and decided to do it. It was a nice easy trail took less than half hour to the lake.

Went on a Monday afternoon and the trail was very busy, including lots of (very cute) dogs. There’s one spot where there’s a downed tree that you have to scramble under or over, but besides that it’s fairly easy going.

Amazing hike! Loved the views. The winds on top of Bald Mountain were awesome!!

finished this 4 days ago and loved it. great views of PC and beautiful trees

I went there on Oct. 6 and it seems another week is probably needed for the birches to fully go into golden. But there is already bunches of red and yellow colors all over. It was amazing! I recommed to come here at the middle of October. You will be blown by the colorful nature! btw, this is a easy trail surrounded by birch and pine trees, which took us about two hours to fully expore the trail and go back to the trail head.

Well marked, wish we would have parked at the trailhead.

Fun trail run. The fall colors were pretty amazing.

Great trail if you just want a fairly easy loop - easy to do in about an hour. Just watch for the bikers on Armstrong. Headphones not recommended.

I'm 65 and not an experienced hiker. It really is beatiful, was pretty easy until the last two switch backs. They were a bit challenging for me. The payoff was an amazing lake at the top. This is a very busy trail.

It was a beautiful hike, and the kiddos loved it! We went on Sunday during fall time, so it was a bit crowded and there were a lot of dogs, luckily most dogs were well behaved ..

Really pretty fall colors. Has a decent climb at first followed by an easy descent the rest of the way. I would rate this as easy rather than moderate.

Fun little hike that isn’t difficult. Not much water in the fall, but the forest surrounding is really cool.

nice hike with pretty views! took us about 30 mins to get to the lake, then we went around it (warning it is snowy and slippery) saw tons of cute pikas in the rocks and moose tracks and other tracks around it! :)

New trail and trailhead are great! Colors are beautiful— should be in full swing in a week or so!

this is probably the best hike I've ever done. tombstone is a fun uphill hike through the woods but the best part of this hike is the scramble across Fantasy Ridge. it's almost like a beginner's guide to Angels Landing. ur exposed on both sides of the ridge and have to pay attention to your footing. i never felt in danger of falling but i could see how this would be the end of the road for people who fear heights. make sure to finish this hike by going to the top of 9990. the 360 view is amazing. this hike is easily worth $25 to take the gondola up. i can't wait to do it again.
