HikingGreat!

Spacious and gradual trail. Lots of sand for the first half of the hike out though.

We didn’t see any cougars like a couple people mentioned. The majority of the hike was relatively flat and not too difficult. The views at the end were absolutely amazing!

Nice, peaceful walk with amazing views at the end. We only encountered 7 other hikers. Great trail to get away from the busy main canyon in Zion. We saw a couple of deer, no mountain lions.

As with other reviewers, I combined Cable Mountain and Deertop Mountain. The trails are relatively flat and not that hard, which was great because I was not fully recovered from hiking The Narrows and The Subway. The trails are also not the most exciting. The good views are at the end of the trail when you reach the cliffs. This may be the least busy day hike trail in all of Zion. I went on a weekend afternoon (aka the busy time) and only saw 1 other lone hiker on the entire trail. The parking lot at the trailhead only holds about 5 cars (not an issue given the traffic). If you do not have AWD or 4WD, you will need to park along the road just shy of the trailhead.

I was really looking forward to this one, but in the end it was not as awesome as I expected, and a lot harder than expected. There's slickrock to see everywhere to see but more than half the actual walking is in deep sand. There is an actual trail most of the way. Use GPS to stay on it. The final descent is really sketchy. There is one move that's completely exposed, so a misstep here equals death. Having walked all this way I continued probably against my better judgement. The canyon was kind of blah when I got down, and impossible to explore in either direction without wading knee deep. Maybe if I'd had more energy and time and was equipped to explore the canyon I'd have got more out of the trip, but it took me 6.5 hours as it is. Even at the end of October, the return was brutally hot.

Pay attention to the map, it's easy to head in the wrong direction at a few key points. Once you get to the end there is a climb down to one of the virgin river forks which has some narrow like features (so bring something to walk in the river with). There is also a plaque on a rock to the right as you face the river at the bottom... if plaques are your thing.

Combined the Deertrap Mountain and Cable Mountain trails for a longer hike (14.8 miles). Both vistas are super cool, although I prefer the view from Cable Mountain at that time of the day. The trails for both aren’t difficult since majority of it will be on pretty flat terrain, which some might say a tad boring.

Incredible views into Zion Canyon at the ends of both trails! We did Cable Mountain Trail in (this recording doesn't show it because I tried to pause and forgot that the only way to get a good AllTrails recording is to start it at the trailhead and not touch it until you're back), got back to the junction with Deertrap Mountain Trail, and decided we had enough in us to do both. Both was a bit intense so if you just do one Deertrap Mountain is more difficult but has more views while Cable Mountain is easier with its own stunning view at the end. All said two great trail with unbeatable views into the canyon!

5-Star view at the end! The first few miles are through brush and scrub trees, pretty unremarkable trail. We passed a lot of scat but luckily no cougars. Did have a bighorn sheep almost join us at the overlook! The first good viewpoint is at about 3.7 miles. There are some ups and downs but mostly the difficulty is due to the length of the trail and the high altitude. We were pleased to have the trail completely to ourselves until we were most of the way back.

15 miles out and back to get to Echo Canyon views. Mostly easy hiking on an old road bed, but lots of sand and not much shade. Good views of checker-board mesa and great viewpoint from the top of the driveway waterfall into Jolly gorge.

Fun trail, but definitely go early. First 2 miles between the mesas is cool, some scrambling. Super hot/no shade when you get to the other side. Very sandy. We went a little off trail and turned around because it got too hot.

HikingGreat!No shade

Very hot and NO SHADE. Take covering clothes, sunscreen and LOTS of water. This hike is well worth the views though. You look down on Angel's Landing. I did not find but one section of the trail to be hard, the rest was just hot and sunny. For sure do this one for the views! We only saw 2 other hikers on this trail. We had a group of 6 adults and a 16 year old boy and it took us about 6 hours to complete and we stopped and ate lunch and took our time once we reached the end with the amazing views.
