Great hike on Oct 13, 2018. Nebo Loop road was closed due to Pole Creek fire, but able to hike Bear Canyon to top where it intersects with Nebo Loop road. Had the entire area to ourselves. Found a fantastic bear paw print on the trail. Snow near the top 1/4 of the trail and quite muddy in spots, but passable.

Beautiful forested trail along Salt Creek which was dry for the first mile or so then flowing further up the trail. Good mix of evergreens, cottonwood, and maple trees. Passes by Salt Creek Falls, which is a nice little waterfall that is a good family hike destination. At least three stream crossings which are very passable in summer and fall but during spring expect to get wet feet. Several nice views of mountain canyons from trail, but most of trail your view is obscured to a few hundred feet due to forest. 90% shade cover. Gently sloped trail for first 1.5 miles or so then continues with moderate / moderately steep until the Nebo Loop road.

Nice forested trail with steady, moderate incline from Salt Creek up to the Nebo Loop road. Several stream crossings although they were dry in Sept. Very pretty fall hike.

September 8, 2018. Hiked Bear Canyon trail from Bear Canyon campground up to Nebo Loop road and back. Forest service trail no. 132. Beautiful fall colors with good mix of evergreens, maples, and aspens. Moderate inclines and fairly well marked with just a little overgrowth onto sides of trail. Did not pass anyone on the trail even though the Nebo Loop road was fairly busy as it was a Sat afternoon. Several stream crossings although they were all dry in Sept. Quite a few trees fallen over trail and several areas with large roots or cobbles in stream bed that would make this a poor trail for mountain biking. About middle of hike there's a section of trail recently washed out by a landslide, but you're able to find way to other side slide to reach continuing trail. Great hike though. I took my time and was a little slower than normal for taking pictures and mapping the route. My AllTrails app didn't start recording correctly at the beginning (on bottom end of the trail) so didn't accurately reflect the distance or the elevation; the route is closer to 6 miles up and back - and about 1,900 ft elevation gain from bottom to top. With the fall colors among the evergreens the lower 2/3 of the trail is one of the most beautiful trail sections I've hiked in the Nebo area.

Easy, fun hike with great destination. Very family friendly trail (but not boring for seasoned hikers). In summer/fall the riverbed may appear dry on way up but keep going... waterfall is flowing late into August and September then water seeps into creek bottom a few hundred yards later. Enjoyable reward on a hot summer day. Been back twice since first finding it.

Fun little hike with interesting destination that my family enjoyed exploring. Google maps took us exactly to the turnoff from main highway and minivan had no problems with gravel road. There's lots of cow pies, and a few cow trails it may be easy to get sidetracked on, but you can see the rock formation in the distance from the parking area/trail head, so you should have no trouble. Great hike for a family or young scout group.

Very low traffic, only saw one other person. So my family and I had the waterfall to ourselves

Neat and fairly easy hike

An amazing geological site! Great for young kids!

This seems like it woulda been a nice trail, but we did not finish it. Firstly, we were worried about bears. Secondly, we did not see any water in the creek so were concerned the falls were dry. Not sure if that was the case though.

Short, easy, kid friendly, and pretty

beautiful hike but the trail is pretty hard to follow. it’s really over grown so i’d wear long pants or tall socks. it’s definitely longer than 8.8 miles... to the south summit it’s 8 miles so be prepared for 16 miles total. last 2-3 miles on the ridge are usually pretty windy and cold so bring extra clothes. i also recommend good traction on your shoes and poles for going back down.

This was a great family friendly hike!! We had 7 people each at a different skill level and it was fun and doable for all.

We did this trail in early June. This hike is pretty easy with great scenery. We went early in the morning and there were not many people on the trail. We kinda got lost. We continued to follow the trail straight ahead after crossing a stream instead of turning left. The waterfall was just there. This short hike was fun and will definitely visit it again someday.

This trail is super easy, very scenic and great for everyone. That being said, there are times the trail is a little overcrowded. Great trail for trail running. I like to visit the Falls, then get back on the trail and continue on the main trail. We’ve made it 5 miles and it’s pretty steady of a climb with lots of beautiful little spots along the way. You’ll get your feet wet because you cross the river several times, but there are substantial less people because it’s a more challenging hike the further up you go. Definitely worth doing!

The reviews here are inaccurate. When you come to the large river crossing, look north, you made it to the falls. if you want to turn this into a hard hike, this will lead you on a horse trail that leads all the way up to the Salt Creek overlook from the main Nebo loop. You follow this trail and cut through the river many times so be prepared to get your feet wet. I have clocked it around 10 miles round trip. Elevation changes would probably be around 3 to 4,000. If you were really ambitious you could go all the way to Mt Nebo trail.

Easy hike, small waterfall, but pretty area:)

Trail was closed when we went on march 28, 2018, unless you wanted to walk the road up. The surrounding area was cool though and we blazed our own little trail around for a bit.

It’s an amazing view point but very short, make sure you plan other stuff on the drive as well, such as Grotto Falls

There are definitely better trails out there however, this is still worth doing in my opinion. Its not very scenic and the waterfall is small. Still fun to explore around though.

I found it! Just needed to turn left at the first sign of water going across the trail. I did find the rock with a arrow pointing to the waterfall.

Very pretty and easy to get to. It is more of a walk than a hike and short. I would plan another hike in the area to make it worth the drive.

Short, but fun trail.

I never found the waterfall... Not sure if I missed a turn or just got on the wrong path I hiked for two hours and went until the brush was too thick to go any further-lots of beaver dams. It was a good hike but I'd like to see the waterfall. I would like to try again, any ideas where I went wrong?

Great view of a cool rock formation.

Really pretty hike. Easy with lots of trees and shade. There were arrows made of sticks and rocks pointing out the trail to the waterfall right after crossing the creek. About .25 miles before crossing the creek is an old cottonwood tree with a square carved out. It used to be a "mailbox" for ranchers and miners a long time ago.

Fun and beautiful hike. Surprised how much water was still running in August. Very quiet and not busy. Would give it 5 stars if not for the huge amount of cow manure everywhere. Easy enough that kids can do it, but far enough to feel like you got a workout.

Just Beautiful! There's a sign to mark the path by the gate. It's an easy hike but does have lose rocks in some areas. Lots of butterflies and cows. Once we reached where the creek crosses the trail we turned left up the falls. The water level was great, not too harsh. There's a nice pond to splash around in the falls at the top. Cool water, can be a bit slippery, and my kids loved it!

I wouldn't consider this a hike but it is a great little walk to an amazing view. We encountered a rattle snake on the trail so just we aware that they live in the area.
