This was a really fun trail. I took my Wrangler up recently and enjoyed the varied types of trail, from rutted dirt, high-banked corners, to super rocky roads, it was a little bit of everything. Definitely not for a non-4x4, but it wasn't difficult, it was just really fun. The Jeep loved it and handled it like a dream, as I imagine most competent off-road capable cars would. The view up top was pretty amazing. I would definitely recommend this trail.

I took a stock 1996 Ford Explorer with decent A/T tires up there, the fall shift is just starting, and you're completely surrounded by greens, oranges, yellows, & reds the entire way up, patience is important and sometimes you're choosing lines through some fairly rocky terrain, but if you have functioning 4x4 and a day to spend away from the city, this trail is an awesome choice.

Amazing drive.. very rocky but a stock SUV can make it. Air down your tires.. Lots of OHV traffic. The views can’t be beat.

I decided to ride this trail and I was not disappointed. Here is what you need to know if you are going to bike this trail:
- Get ready for a climb. The first two miles are killer. But it's a good trail with the exception of the last quarter mile or so. The trail turns into loose gravel and cobbles so it's really hard to keep your momentum.
- After the climb, take the trail to the right and get ready for a great downhill and some great views of the valley you just climbed. Narrow single track. Mostly hard pack but it gets Rocky here and there.
- Now for why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. During the downhill, the trail gets very overgrown and super narrow. It is still way fun, but I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner.
- There are a few places where the trail splits. The one I ended up taking ended with a steep downhill through a wash. Kinda sketch. It spit me out on the road just down from where I started. I plan on exploring that area more in the future.

So yeah, great ride! Super pretty too. Enjoy!

Fun hike, took me about two hours. No peak or vista if you stay on the loop. Saw a huge bull moose at the pond, he stayed put fortunately because the trail runs near the pond. The loop was about 4.85 mi round trip.

Completed this trail on 04 July 18. The current map shows a start point from the main town of Mantua - but there is a parking area near the stream running south from the reservoir with a paved parking lot and restrooms that is a better spot. Just follow the dike road and you will run right into it.

The ride is fun. Pretty steady climb to the spot where the loop begins to descend (about 2/3 of the total). The decent is the most technical portion of the ride - described as a "roller coaster" by my riding companion. There are three additional spur loops that tie into the main trail. No shade to speak of, can be dusty. There are some benches and tables around mile 1.5 and 2 of the main loop.

The trail head was not well marked, but after locating a large gate I climbed through and headed out. I started out going left completed it going clockwise. It has a gradual incline in the beginning up to a small meadow abiut 2 miles up. In this meadow I was thrown off by the fork in the road. But only hiked a short time on the wrong trail before it narrowed and was very grown over. At this point I checked my map and made a course adjustment. Back on the trail, (following the fork to the right) it continues to climb through beautiful green forest. I crossed the creek 3 times overall and even found a small spring on the trail. While hiking through scrub oak, tall pines and really large Aspen trees, I enjoyed every minute. Continuing to gain altitude I found some amazing views of the high mountain ridges around even passed a small pond, and finished this hike on the west ridges or the mountainside crossing natural shale rock and gravel beds. It desends very significantly in the last 1.5 miles. I am excited to do this again.

We didn't enjoy this at all. It wasnt hard in fact it was really easy. You can't see the lake the whole time due to trees which is ok except you are rarely in the shade. It is a good beginner walk for young kids.

The trail was fine... nothing super special but I enjoyed the mountains views.

Nice scenery. Absolutely zero shade. I was expecting a lot of bugs but only came across butterflies. It’s a nice walk and my dog enjoyed it but I found it to be slightly boring. Going on a weekday there was hardly anyone there.

This is a great path for families. I took my 3 kids (4,2,10 months) and I was able to push a stroller. There is no incline so it is extremely easy.

fun drive. The top is beautiful.

My fiancé and I walked the entire trail. The only problem is the gnats! There were section in the trail that you couldn’t walk through without hearing the buzzing sound or having them all over you. It’s a beautiful walk but beware the gnats. Spring time is probably not the best time to go.

I really love to run around this reservoir. You can add on a little bit up the knoll to see the whole lake

Flat and wide gravel trail

Lots of bugs. The beach area is small and no trees for shade by the beach area. Lots of people.

Beautiful hike, I wouldn't give it a moderate rating at all, this is an easy trail. I went in the end of June in the late hours and I came across fireflies on the South side, just breath taking to watch them.

We got to the trail head and there was a locked gate. We were really excited to try a new spot that was horse friendly, so we were pretty bummed to have to turn back.

I did not four wheel or other vehicle. Drove up as far as I could in a small car. Parked and walked up to short of the 8500 ft level when snow blocked even my way (I did not have crampons so I would not slid downhill), so I turned around. Trail was mostly easy. Trail dust from sidebys, 4 wheelers and motorcycles was pretty bad on the way down (later in the day). Would like to finish the hike as it appears I was .6 miles short of the point. Oh well, later in the summer.

Nice trail through a variety of terrain. It appears from the GPX files (mine and AllTrails), that the trail ends at a large clearing/meadow. Good workout for rehab on my knees.

This is a perfect gravel road for a walk, run, bike, or cross country skiing. It is busy enough to feel safe and quiet enough to feel enriched. The bugs gets heavy, but after looking down at my shins and seeing hundreds of dead nats somehow makes me think I ran so fast. ;) People also run it in the winter. It has great beaches, but beware of swimmers itch. Of the 11 years we have been going we got it once.

Road is in good condition for the most part. Very rocky, but any stock 4wd could do it no problem. Beautiful scenery, and the view from Inspiration point is awesome.

Rode bikes with the kids. Ages 13,12 & 9. Made it around 2 1/2 times for a total of 10 miles. Would have kept going but it got dark.

From May 31st to Sept 1st. And All of October expect lots of traffic on this road.
Most of the way up its wide enough for a full size truck and a 4 wheeler . When another full size truck is coming towards you , one of you need to back up to a wider spot in the road .. It's a "WHITE KNUCKLE " deal..
The road is in great condition until about 1 mile past the Avon fork then it's very rocky .. Be careful
A 2 wheel drive could make it but this is a 4 WD road ..
Once you catch some elevation the views are stunning .. Well worth the drive .. Once on top you will come to the Willard Basin Sign . ( it's a big sign on the right) .
Now your descending into Willard basin in 2 miles you'll come to a spring ( black poly pipe with running water on south side of road ) stop and have a drink " Fresh & Pure" on your right there are camp grounds with Fire Pits and Picnic Tables ..
Also this is where you should park your car, truck , SUV , 4 wheeler ect..
The trail head to hike to Willard Peak and then onto Ben Lomond is on your left .. There are 4 or 5 trails you want the one that goes around the east side of the pond .. Just start hiking your best guess and when you see the pond change over to the correct one , or keep hiking the one your on .. All of them lead to the same place .. The hike to Ben Lomond from here is 3 miles so 6 miles ( round Trip )
Watch out for Rattle Snakes this is a bad year for them ( note : it is against the law to kill a rattlesnake in Utah) so f you encounter one just stand way back and give it some room in a few minutes it will move away and you can continue your hike ..
Wild flowers every where ..
If you decide to continue to Inspiration Point it's 2 miles further ..once on top of the world " great at night watching the sunset "
There's a nice Bench on one end .. Enjoy and have fun .. Happy Trails
