Very rocky trail around lakes

So beautiful! We had kids with us so it was a bit tricky at first because it has a couple spots that are a little steep. But once you get to the bottom at the river it is worth it. We did find a snake so keep a look out.

A nice easy walk and an excellent way to see the canyon.

Short easy hike but rocky trail as you get closer to lakes. We caught a couple good sized Tiger Trout at the end of August in Tamarack lake.

All the online guides say this is a must-do hike at Flaming Gorge. I'd suggest it a must-do get out and see the views but not really a hike. If you start at the visitors center and follow the trail until it enters the forest before turning around as some suggest, it's fine. However it's very near a road and campgrounds, and the view of the gorge only changes very subtly. I think there are better hikes in the area.

I'd suggest just getting out at the visitors center to see the views. Maybe drive to the lodge and head out on their access trail (past the cabins and it's clearly marked) to get the slightly different view. If you do want a loop, we hiked from the visitors center then turned onto to the path to Greens Lake then met back up with to the canyon rim trail for about 4.5 miles total. The lake portion is forested and away from the rim but we did see mule deer. Also stopped for lunch at the Lodge. Still this isn't really a hike, but rather a long walk with lots of people.

Hiked with our 2 dogs today. The weather was great and the scenery is beatiful!

Pretty views.
Not difficult at all. We were over prepared due to the listing.
Disappointing as I expected something a little more engaging.
Heavy traffic.
We did see some wildlife though. A group of rams were hanging out about .5 miles from the visitor's center.

I really liked this trail! I’d say the rating of moderate is accurate. It’s rocky so wear something with an ankle support. The lake is beautiful and we were treated to some elk coming to drink across the lake. We pitched camp back in the trees and had a wonderful time before continuing on our adventure.

The Red Canyon Rim trail is part of a network of trails in the area around the Red Canyon Rim visitor center and campgrounds. You can get on and off this trail in multiple places. This AllTrails listing shows the hike starting at the Greendale Overlook right off of UT 44, using the trailhead on the west side of the parking area. This is actually not the best option, as it entails walking 3 miles through a pretty, but not especially interesting pine forest before you get to the spectacular views of the gorge. If you just start the trail at the other end, by the visitor center, and go 2 miles out and back, you will be along the rim the whole way. I did a partial loop going by Greens Lake, which involved walking parallel to the visitor center road for awhile, which wasn't great. The trail is very well maintained and signed, probably to facilitate use by mountain bikers and cross country skiers in the winter. I never saw any sign of a trail going down to the river.

Little Hole is a very nice out and back hike. As many people have already mentioned, there are a lot of snakes, so it's good to be wary. if you start at the dam, there is no public restroom until mile 5.5 or so, just be aware and plan accordingly.

The trail is very rocky at some points and gets a decent amount of sun, but there are also little shady groves here and there. Enjoy!

Beautiful hike for the family. My ten year old loved it but my 6 year old got tired quickly. Nice places for picnics along the way. Some parts of the trail were really rocky and was hard on the ankles. Overall, beautiful hike!

It’s an amazing fishing area! As you are casting you can hear hawks hunting above you. Be warned, watch out for rattlesnakes they are sparse but can be found in the canyon.

Beautiful trail along the Green River. The trail down the gorge to the river edge is a bit steep but the rest is easy.

This is definitely not a "hard" hike, but more like a mellow nature walk. The first 2.5 miles and in the trees, and you finally get to a good view of the gorge at around 3 miles. Very pretty, but not what we were expecting!

I love Tamarack . Easy trail.

Great hike to the lake. A little rocky and wet but not bad. Got a small blow up out on Tamarack well worth it!

This is a good trail! There is a lot rocks, so make sure you have something with good ankle support. The upper creeks are blown out due to snow melt, so the crossing are a bit sketchy. Overall a very good hike that gives you a good workout!

Awesome and stunning trail alongside the Green River starting immediately south of the Flaming Gorge Dam. Be aware there are multiple wading opportunities right now due to high water. Missing pieces of walkway and trail along the way so you will get wet right now. Needs some trail work , but it is So worth some wet boots. Friendly rafters and fisherman along the way to have fun with! Also note: the first and last .5 mile is all the elevation loss and gain.

It's rated as hard, but actually more moderate. Mostly level walking with slight inclines. Path can be a little rocky, but mostly a nice dirt path. The sights are amazing, definitely worth it. And you can tailor the hike to the distance you'd like. We didn't do the whole thing but tied it into the Greens Lake Trail. Beautiful scenery.

I lived in Dutch John when I was a teenager so this trail will always be amazing to me. Great scenery, snooty fish and fishermen in various moods. And many people in rafts.

I was not too impressed. i was trying to do an overnighter up to red lake. I made it to Teepee Lake with no problem and decided to push on to Red Lake. About a mile past Teepee the trail just disappears. Camped out in the only suitable spot I could find, glad I had a bivy. From about Teepee to where ever I made it to the mosquitoes were ridiculous and I probably now have Zika virus. If you are looking just to get away from people I recommend. If you are looking for cool views situated alongside high mountain lakes don't waste your time. Although I never made it to Red Lake so who knows. Good Luck.

Little hole is where most end there Rafting/Fishing Trip. A great time no matter what you are doing. There is a great hiking trail that follows the river.

I've camped and water-skied a couple of different times at Flaming Gorge. It's a nice area for camping and boating.

I have hiked this trail to Tamarack and Jessen many times. It's quite easy just to those lakes. 2013 I hiked this trail to Burnt Forks Lake, it was pretty easy until the pass at the end of Tamarack Lake, it's tough. from there its pretty easy to Fish Lake. Climbing from Fish Lake to Burnt Fork is medium.

Hiked this with my son on the way to a night at Fish Lake.

Did this one back in 1967. Then the trail was hard to follow and we spent a lot of time of trail. Wonderful country though. Hopefully, the trail is much improved.

I have both hiked and floated this trail from Flaming Gorge Dam to Little Hole. Wonderful trip either way. Great trout fishing on a premier fly fishing stream.
