This is a trail that you will need GPS or map and compass. After Hoover lake we bushwhacked to Marshall lake (an incredibly beautiful lake) from there on to Echo lake. Lots of blow down or dead fall, and some marshy areas, definitely got my feet wet more than once. Some awesome little ponds along the way. Lots of boulder fields, if you can avoid them I would. Fun time and a good workout.

Hike in beautiful weather. No bugs to worry you. There is one long stretch to steep climbing. Not an "easy" hike, I would classify as "moderate" due to the steep section.

Went on this hike on 8/15/2019 with my wife. Started the trail around 10:00am. Mosquitos weren’t bad. The first half went well up to Pine Island Lake. However, we had a problem finding the Palisade Trail on the loop. Never did find the trail. We were passing Palisade lake on a nearby ridge when we saw a huge wolf (most likely a gray wolf) running across the meadow near the lake. We continued trying to find the Palisade trail when we finally found the trail where the Hades Rocky Sea Pass trail meets up. Other than the off trail part (my wife wasn’t too happy about that), the hike was great.

Did this as a side venture as part of the Lofty Lakes loop, but only went to the high point where you are looking down on the one of the small lakes shown on the map. The hike was mostly level except for one very steep stretch as you climb up to where I stopped. Next time I am planning to go all the way to Cuberant Lake and maybe up Mount Marsell. The Lofty Lakes loop portion of the trail has a lot of traffic, but this trail not so much.

Moderate hike up to a small, beautiful lake filled with trout. I just spend two days there alone, saw an occasional hiker. Surprisingly quiet.

Gate is still closed 6 miles from the trailhead. The forest ranger says it will be closed at least until July due to snow blocking the road.

The trail is a little steep and rocky at first, but this is a great hike with beautiful lakes. There’s a fair amount of traffic between the trail head and Grandaddy lake, but once you’re in the basin, the trails are easy going, and it’s a lot less busy.

Granddaddy basin gets better the farther in you get.

Just a short-cut trail from the East Fork of the Duchesne River to Pinto Lake

Easy trail cover parts of the Highline and Duchesne river trail before you get to Governor Dern Lake. Lots of trees surround the lake. Many other lakes nearby to enjoy also

Hiked up to the main lake instead of the smaller lake that this lake goes to. Pretty area

Palisade have been one of my favorite lakes in the Granddaddy Basin for years. There is a nice bench about the lake to camp with a view of the lake below.
