Hiked King’s Peak out and back in one day from TH (9/21) in 12 hours. Temps are cooling off, as low as the teens in some spots before the sun came up and especially chilly by the water, but zero bugs. Parking lot was full over the weekend with backpackers coming and going, but CG still had plenty of spaces. Plenty of water for filtering along the trail, although it’s starting to get frosty and freeze at the edges of some small ponds. Bring wood glue if you’re heading up, as the poor sign is falling apart. Someone’s duct tape has worn out or gotten too cold to keep it together. Great scramble to get to the summit and epic views from the peak. Dusting of snow up high. Fairly rocky trails. Moose spotting. GPS devices tracked closer to 30-31 miles, as other reviewers have stated. South of Gunsight we lost the right fork in the trail and had to backtrack a little, but AllTrails quickly got us on the right track. Several hikers we ran into took the rocky shortcut south of Gunsight and said it wasn’t worth it—took more time than the regular trail.

Being your microspikes for sections of mud and light snow/ice. I’m sure you could get by without them, particularly if you have poles, but why take a risk on a slip. Beautiful day, nice people on the trail. No complaints.

FYI, No OHV allowed on trail, we had rented a Yamaha Wolverine but were not allowed to drive out on this trail :-(

Fun casual hike that’s not strenuous if you go hiking frequently. The scenery is great and there’s a salmon run this season (autumn)! Some things I didn’t like was how crowded this place was. The trail is narrow and you will be yielding to many people if you go during the busy part of the day. I recommend checking this out early in the morning to avoid the foot traffic and have a better view of the salmon when they’re not hiding from the crowds!

If you like a challenge this was fun. A little snow made the steeps parts challenging and some rock scrambling required to get around the lake.

Amazing hike, highly recommend crampons/spikes and trekking poles because of the recent snowfall. If you’re getting to the summit in the early afternoon however, the sun should thaw a bit of the ice on Timp.

9.22.2019 started at 5:00 am, and found plenty of parking. Shot up the trail at cold-ish 28-degrees. Had lights that led us to “bonehead” falls, which we named because we accidentally took the wrong trail turn from the main trail and ended up at the waterfall. Slight 15 min delay and we were on our way. Peaked at 8:30 am over packed and slippery ice. Top was a little sketchy due to snow this week, but we made it with some care. The trip down was muddy as the sun started to warm the dirt, and another hour after us probably saw pretty mushy trail conditions. Unbelievable that this scenery exists. Great adventure! Finished at 11:45.

perfect weather today...little bit of a scramble last mile but it looks worse from afar than it really was!

Overnight with wife - awesome scenery, strenuous, but not too long. Camped at CP5 which was secluded and very peaceful. One piece of advice - take LOTS of water. We thought we brought enough but ran out the next morning and hiked out early to avoid the heat.
