This is a wonderful hike! Gorgeous views and variety. Take it counterclockwise from Silver Lake Rec center (hitting Twin Lakes before Lake Solitude). The first half of the trail was crowded on a late Saturday afternoon, but the second half was empty.

Note: as you’re coming down after Lake Solitude, be careful to stay on the trail. You’ll be walking down an access road and see another small lake ahead of you. As soon as you see it, take the (mostly unmarked) small cutoff to the left. We walked an extra half mile down the road before realizing we had left the trail.

Great little hike. Go early, or forget about getting a parking spot!

The views at the top are fantastic. It wasn't too difficult because of many flat parts which allow you to catch your breath while hiking. Fine hike for most everyone.

Very awesome hike. Spectacular views the whole way through looking out over the mountain range in all directions. I definitely recommend doing this hike counter clock-wise, as there is a pretty steep area this would be best to climb up instead of down. You’ll come across a few mountain bikers at the beginning and end of the hike near where you park. The hike overall is not too heavily trafficked.

Great views. Easy short trail

we went for the first time this summer with our Pub for her first swim water is really cold most of us all got in.... what happened to the rope swing ?

Fantastic views, mostly easy except one sharp climb if you start from the East. I would not recommend going down that hill so the trail is better done counter clock wise.

great hike, loved it. wish I brought a floating device and swim clothes.

This hike was all uphill on rocky terrain. I went with my two kids on a Saturday in August. My seven-year-old enjoyed the challenge, but my four year old had a hard time with how steep it was. The views at the top were stunning!!! We decided to come down using the trail going around the side of the mountain that meets up with Blood Lake trail. That was a much easier trail (less slope) and the lake was beautiful, but packed with people and dogs. I would definitely do that loop again!

The hike has some beautiful views. It crosses under a chair lift twice. The trails are frequented by mountain bikers. It's a popular drop off point for mountain bike shuttles. We saw few hikers. The lake is not a fishing lake but still pleasant to reach. The first half does have signs. The signs we found after that seemed to assume a specific direction to the loop

I loved this hike!! We decided to hike the peak in the morning to see the sunrise. We started hiking around 4am and got to the peak at 5:30am. It’s a pretty steep hike, and when you get to the ridge line it can be a little difficult to follow. The entire experience is definitely worth it. There is also a lake directly below the peak. If you back track about 0.5 miles back you can hike down to it. Do this hike you won’t regret it!!!

This app is great

Just visited today, hike is pretty easy until the steep part right before the lake as others have mentioned. The GPS location I got from AllTrails kept trying to make us take a private road on someone's property so I recommend stopping at the parking lot at the top of Guardsman Pass. Out of the 6 of us who swam in the lake only 1 found a leech on them so enter at your own risk!

nice little hike after work

Great hike with good views at the top. While on the trail we ran into Forest Service officials who indicated that this trail is actually in watershed, so no dogs are allowed. Dogs can be on the trails to blood lake. But not allowed on the peak area.

Easy and short hike but it gets rocky and steep at the end. It was crowded and there were lots of dogs. I went there on a Sunday at 4:00pm. I saw some people swimming and fishing . Overall nice hike

Great trail. Amazing views. Appropriately rated as moderate. Could be difficult for kids at certain points if you go all the way to Sunset Peak. Saw a moose, lots of chipmunks and a marmot.

What happened to the rope swing

Pretty short and easy hike until the last bit as it gets a little steep/rocky right before the lake (still doable for kids or beginners though). Went on a weekday around 2 pm and it wasn’t crowded at all. Great views, great for swimming, and dog friendly!

Beautiful lake, just a short hike from the trailhead. Would definitely recommend getting there before 10 to avoid the crowds and get decent parking. The hike down to the lake is short, but a bit steep towards the end. There are several other trails on the opposite side of the lake if you want to explore further. Rope swing isn't there as of today, but the lake is still very swimmable. Lots of trash along the popular swimming spots - please respect nature and pack out what you pack in ✌

This trail was super steep. I think based on other trails around here, I’m feeling like this should be rated hard. Beautiful views and awesome lakes!

Amazing views and beautiful forests. I’m a slower hiker and there are some parts which were more rugged than I expected but it was so worth it. Keep your eyes and ears open for mountain bikers.

I LOVED THIS HIKE!!!! Definitely would recommend. we went at sunset then hiked down in the dark. super easy hike if you are a regular hiker! super sandy once you reach the saddle. AMAZING VIEW at the top!!! short and sweet hike! go at sunset definitely

Well... we went to hike Lackawaxen but not too far into the hike we came upon a lake. It was Blood Lake. I get my trusty Alltrails trail out and see we arent even on the right trail. However, this became a lovely loop to Lackawaxen. For 1 the Lackawaxen trail is STEEP at the beginning. My knees were killing me coming down it so depending which way you would rather do the loop think of those things. If you want to go up the steep part take the trail to the right that goes up a steep incline if you want to sneak up on Lackawaxen from Blood Lake take the flat trail to the left. Once at Blood Lake keep following the lake around and you will see a trail heading up. Take that up and you will come to a clearing and pass under power lines. Keep following that trail to Lackawaxen. If you see boulders you cross them and the lake is a stones throw away. I am glad we went the wrong way mostly because the beginning is steep and 2 the views! Yeah you get the views coming up but some of the best ones will be at your back. If you come up this way be sure to stop a lot and turn around.

a great intermediate hike. amazing wildfowers and last time there was a bull moose feeding on the edge of lake solitude.
