Love this lake. Such an amazing hike and scenery. Definitely a bit harder for my kids but still doable for them - ages 7 to 12. Less people here than Silver Lake too so that’s worth the extra hour hike too.

went up the trail 1.5 miles up and came back due to time. the fall leaves are definitely coming out and seeing quite a bit of color on the trail.

Not a bad hike. About 1.75 miles up from the main trailhead. Took me roughly 30 min to the lake with a mixture of trail running and hiking. I would give this hike a 4* if it weren’t for the road access. I would rather hike to a lake that has only one way to it...foot. Also, the total ascent was only 886 from the trailhead. Total time 1:03. Oh and there was a dead horse on the trail.

The hike from silver lake up to silver glance is pretty steep in some areas and it bites! But definitely worth the extra distance to get away from crowds and have lunch.

This is a beautiful hike. The wild flowers were starting to bloom (June 27) and the lake was gorgeous. A good mid-range hike.

backpacking

Came backpacking to Silver Lake last summer with a group a friends and had a blast so I thought I'd return. This time I was solo and wanted to escape the crowds at Silver Lake. Best decision I could have made consider I was spending the night up there. Started from Silver Flats at 6:30 and got to Silver Lake at 7:30. Passed a few big groups planning to stay the night at Silver Lake, and there were already several groups setting up camp at Silver Lake. Went the additional 0.7mi up to Silver Glance Lake. Bit difficult with an overnight backpack, but got up in 30min. Only two other guys were already there, and one other group came later, so very few people stayed the night. Very cool at night, but very peaceful and great views. Hiked down Saturday morning at 8am and was back to the car by 9:30am. Lots of groups going up to fish on the weekend. Overall, short hike (bit steep at parts but very doable) for a great destination. Still one of favorite places to backpack.

Definitely off the beaten path--the trailhead is up a dirt road from Granite Flats campgrounds and the trailhead doesn't have a sign (though there is a tiny parking area) --never would have found it without the app. Beautiful hike; lots of trees and wildlife--we saw what we think was a golden eagle and lots of butterflies. Mostly shady, not too steep. We saw one other group of hikers and otherwise had the place to ourselves even though other trails nearby were swarming with people. We loved it.

Great views on the way up and down from the lake including Silver lake and Mt. Timp. The lake is smaller but a great way to escape the crowds at Silver lake below. There was no one there in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday with beautiful weather. It’s the end of June and there are plenty of wildflowers. Trail is more difficult to locate at the beginning and very steep with loose rock at times in particular coming down. Trekking poles would help even though I didn’t take mine. My 7 year old son hiked it with me and really enjoyed it.

Quiet trail, hiked 2 mi up.

spectacular! hike gets really steep after Silver Lake, though.

Long drive up the canyon to get to the trailhead. It was a Saturday when we went so it was really busy, with limited parking. Last mile or so is dirt road to the trailhead, so be prepared for that. Once on the trail, it is gorgeous! The trail is wide enough in most places to walk side by side. Some parts are somewhat steep and I saw a lot of tired hikers taking breaks along the way. The view along most of the hike is breathtaking; You can see the lake below and most of the way down the canyon. There’s a small waterfall near the top, and the end of the trail is a crystal clear lake. Very cold water. Lots of little fish breaking the surface of the water constantly. Beautiful blue, ever-so-clear water. No muddy trail, no snow, and not too many people. It’s a wonderful and highly recommended hike this time of year.

Nice secluded, shady trail. Gorgeous views at the beginning, but trees obstruct the rest of the hike. Went mid-morning, was pretty sure I was going to be the only mammal on the trail until I was nearly back to the trailhead when a doe and I startled each other. Unfortunately she darted back into the trees before I could get a picture. Most of the evelvation change is at the last 1/4 of the trail. Being June, it was no surprise to find Silver Creek dried up.
Once you turn off of 010 onto 008, it's a dirt/gravel road from there. My Nissan Altima made it ok but parts of the road have severe dips and large rocks, proceed with caution.

No more snow to speak of at Silver Glance Lake. Silver Lake was very busy on a Saturday morning, but there was nobody at Silver Glance. The last 0.7 miles are steep and the trail isn't very defined but it's well worth the effort.
Go during the week or get up early on a weekend.

Loved this hike today. Absolutely worth it to escape the popular crowd down at Silver Lake and get into some solitude up at Silver Glance. Trail isn't hard to find. There are probably 5-6 different trails that you can find. Basically, keep near the stream and you'll find the lake. Lake is still 80% frozen over. I got up around 10 AM and could walk right on top of the snow without sinking at all as the afternoon sun had not hit it yet. Gorgeous views of the Little Cottonwood Ridge, and [southward] the view of American Fork Canyon and Timpanogos.

on Silver Glance Lake

Did a day hike up to Silver Glance while camping at Silver Lake. The trail up over the ridge is a little hard to follow, but really pretty with all of the little streams and waterfalls coming down. Once you hit the top of the ridge, you hike through snow fields for another half mile or so to the lake. If you go soon, bring good boots and be prepared for snow. We didn’t sink in farther than 5-6 inches, but it could be cold and wet in tennis shoes. The lake itself is quite small and is still frozen as of Memorial Day, so it wasn’t much to see. That being said, as you hike up, the view looking back down on Silver Lake, Timpanogos, and the valley is pretty unreal. Overall it was a solid hike! We only saw one other person going up there, so it’s definitely away from the crowds at Silver Lake.

The trail from Silver Lake to Silver Glance is a little hard to follow, and it’s pretty steep, but worth it.

Didn’t make it all the way to Silver Glance Lake as it was snowing & with the steepness, I opted to turn around after I had a nice view of Silver Lake below.

Shocked by the 4.5 stars. Least favorite hike of the summer. The trail has been badly worn from horses and is extremely loose and rocky. Tons of exposure the whole way. Disappointed in the lake because water level is way down. I strongly recommend just driving to the Silver Lake TH and hiking to Silver Lake.

We just backpacked and tent camped two separate nights in the last week here with our dog and 4 year old son. It is a fairly easy hike and camping by the lake up top was amazing!!!!

My wife and I took the dog up this morning to get up to Silver Glance Lake. We got to the trailhead around 8AM and it was still a bit chilly at the start. Once we got up to Silver Lake we were warmed up. The trail starts out very easy and then gains elevation with some switchbacks up to Silver Lake. Lots of people fishing. Hiking to Silver Glance Lake is much more difficult due to steepness, but it's relatively short in length. Got caught in some afternoon rain so maybe bring a rain jacket if you'll be up in the afternoon. A moose was spotted down closer to Silver Lake so keep your dog on the leash!

Such a great hike. Really secluded and beautiful at the top. The views on the way up are incredible. Relatively steep for some parts but well worth the hike.

Always a gorgeous hike!

Beautiful hike with tons of wildflowers. Hiked to the top lake which ended up being 7 miles round trip. The views are best just above the first lake at mile 3. The top lake was neat but better views overlooking the lake below.

Awesome hike. Starting from Silver Lake it's a little steep at first but it gets easier towards the second half. Great views all along the trail. Lots of people on the trail until you get pass Silver Lake and then no crowds.

1 hr to silver lake and another hour up to Silver Glance. From Silver lake it's intense up and down. Glad to say I have been there and the reason I'd do it again are for the views of Silver Lake.

Great trail. Snow is almost gone near the lake. Some open water so it won't be long before it's ice free. Beautiful cirque. Only downside is that we were not the only ones enjoying the hike. Counted over 120 people on the trail between 6:40 and 10:30am
