Stunning views of the lake , I have walked a bit far and have managed to view Penny Backer bridge as well. This place is a more of climbing the steps than mere walking until you reach top.

Convenient hike that is enjoyable year round. Even in August this hike was pleasant due to the shady path, but it is definitely best after a rain or when there's been a rainy season. Full of people and off-leash dogs and, unfortunately, entirely too many bags of dog poop left on the trail by irresponsible owners who can't be bothered carrying out their dog's poop.

This isn’t much of a hike but the view is so gorgeous ! It does have a lot of visitors so go early . The views are really amazing and worth the 100 stairs up!

Great place to take dog, plenty of creek crossings and shaded areas to enjoy area. Downside is that the secret is out and can get pretty crowded.

Amazing, shaded, easy off-leash trail. My best fur-friend and I LOVED this trail. One caveat, there are spots at the beginning (and, upon return) to be careful with your dog; the road is very close and, if you have an explorer like mine, they can shoot out there.

Took the kids, took the dogs. Lots of creek crossing and places to splash. Almost entirely shaded.

Many steps but the view is worth it. Wasn't too too busy but made hard to get photos without other people jumping in them. The view was stunning as you can see a lot and pretty far.

Nice, but short and dense with visitors.

This is the trail I run most often. It’s about 2.6 mile loop, but you can double back at the “lollipop head” and go back in the other direction to get about 3.9 miles.
Has a couple good inclines/declines and you cross the creek several times. This is a really fun trail to run and a good workout.

I love this trail! Great for doggos, very shaded, wide trail, moderate elevation. There's camping at Emma Long Metro Park right next to it. And if you want a riverside lunch afterwards, hit up Ski Shores 5 minutes away.

It’s not very challenging or long, but the views are beautiful.

We went hiking here 2 days in a row and absolutely loved it. My puppy had never done a hike off-leash and he LOVED it. I wish there were more around us!

best trails to take your dog(s), if they have a good recall.

nice view but not a hike

Nice trail. Only downside is all the dog poop everywhere. We found ourselves looking down most of the time to avoid stepping in what we could smell all around us.

If the dog owners would be responsible, the trail would be awesome.

Trail runs along creek bed in heavy tree cover. No views to speak of but a nice place to get out for a short hike.

It was beautiful and peaceful, and my dogs had a blast!

Definitely easy to get lost, needs some trail markers, but other than that it was a decent hike. No views, and lots of water for the dogs to swim in.

Beautiful shaded trail

Took my dog there yesterday. It was really fun for her and not too much of a hiking challenge for me (which is a good thing). We had to cross the creek about 10 Times; so wear hiking shoes and cross carefully. Lots of friendly people and dogs. Total hike is just under 3 miles. We did inadvertently go off trail a couple times. But we managed to get back on trail within a few minutes.

Definitely not a hike! More of a stair climb! But beautiful views of the Colorado river and downtown Austin. The stair ascent is fairly steep but there is an alternate dirt trail to the north that is more accessible! Very very busy place...if you are looking for solitude search elsewhere!

Great to do with the doggy. Lower sections near the creek are nice but with some slipery watercrossings. The upper sections don't have much of a view and is just brushy woods.

Good trail..could use a bit more markers though, you can easily get lost in the evening/night..

I wouldn’t really consider this a hike. It’s a short stair climb, but the views are out of this world!

For trail running I'd only give this two stars. But hey, while I might primarily do trail running doesn't mean this trail sucks. It's actually a quiet awesome place. This isn't a trailrunning trail anyway, so it gets the stars it deserves.

Mt Bonnell is more a historic landmark. The best part of it is the grand view of the river. To get that view you have to go up. You'll grind your way up the stairs, and once at top you can soak in the views, walk alongside the river's edge, explore all the little trails wandering through the grass and rocks and trees, or just chill on one of the many benches and/or under the pavilion.

As for trail running, this would primarily be good for stairs workout. If you wanted to run the trails, you'd run into lots of people, and you'd run the entire system of trails in about 10 minutes max. Iow, don't come here for actual trail running. But as I said, this place is iconic in it's own right.

I really loved this trail.. it is beautiful and cool under the tree coverings.. I loved that it had some options for elevation on the cliff rather than just staying on the creekside. Aroumd the top of the loop looks a little barren and it gets muddy after rain but Its a beautiful scene to walk through. If you have friendly dogs it is a leash free trail so they can roam independently..

Always beautiful.

Great views, a place to take visitors and newcomers. However, this not, repeat not, a hiking trail. It is 1/2 mile, you go up, you admire the views, perhaps take a few photographs, you go down, and that is about it
