Pretty uneventful. The trail was paved and there wasn't much to see. The spring is just a little pond basically. We were there in May and there was no wildflowers and we didn't really see any wildlife. I would say to use your time elsewhere in the National Park unless you are looking for something super short and quick.

All we had time for was this easy, paved .9 there & back trail. It takes you to the Butterfield Stage site. Liked the history. Scenery is good.

Nice easy trail to warm up on after a long drive. Not challenging, but very interesting to learn about the area and the history.

Have driven this beautiful highway several times. It is always a pleasure to see these mountains again. The scenery is always different depending of the time of the year.

This is really a very easy trial through some nice vegetation and good views of the surrounding mountains

Nice hike to the springs. Many wildflowers in the summer and nice views of the surrounding mountains.

Really like that trail, it is easy to walk, has very good views of the mountains and during the summer has an abundance of wildflowers. Have hiked this trail several times

The trail is okay. Definitely easy for those with limited mobility. What made the outing awesome is the ranch buildings and the incredibly knowledgeable park ranger. I took my son this spring, right after he turned 16, and we made a day of it at the park. Touring the buildings and talking with the park ranger made our day. We learned so much and I'm just sorry that I cannot remember the ranger's name.

We have driven by this beautiful area several times .We have visited the McKittrick Canyon and hiked by the trials in the Guadalupe Mountains also several times. One of this times was on Sep 2014, just during rainy season. The area looked as a big lake, is worth a visit.

No reservations, if you go during a peak time and you are getting there later in the day expect to have to find somewhere else to stay, whether you hike to Pine Top Campground, which is around 4.2 miles away and you need to be prepared and have the gear to stay in a back country campground, or have a back up plan on where to stay locally. Guadalupe Peak trailhead and the trailheads to go back country hiking are all here. Water and bathrooms but no showers. No food available and no campfires allowed. ********ALSO, if you plan on coming to this park and doing and hiking other than the peak, the park does not sell a decent park map. Only a brochure of the one you can find on the NPS website, you need to bring your own map wth mileage and elevation if you plan on back country hiking. It is not necessary if you only plan to do the peak. *********

Dog Canyon is a campground on the western side of Guadalupe Mountains National Park. You really want to go here to go here. It's about 100 miles from the visitors center by road. (less than 20 mi hiking) It has horse facilities if you bring your mount. There are no hookups.

This trail is part of the loop on the east side just past the ranch. Early settlers used the spring as a lifeline for survival and also recreation. Entering the pond is prohibited of course, since it's basically a historic site.

The most interesting part of this small trail lies with it's history. There's not much left of the ruins but it's impressive and significant when considering that this particular area was a gateway for sending mail westward in earlier times.

This section is US-180 through Guadalupe Mountains National Park. To the West/North is the Top of Texas; Guadalupe Peak. More impressive is El Capitan, the southernmost of the peaks.
