Port Arthur, Texas Map

A short boardwalk through the coastal marsh, the trail is easy and great for kids. I visited in winter, the mosquitos were not a problem and no gators. Kids loved seeing the blue crabs cruising along the clear waters of the lagoon. Great for birdwatching.

Spent the day at the beach then we hiked the trail. Just watch out for Gators.

Nice little boardwalk with lots of wildlife, including various birds, blue crab, gators, snakes, etc. It’s also a short walk to the beach, which is a plus.

Long boardwalk over water that is surprisingly open. Saw lots of birds including coots, ibis, egrets, herons, and a pelican. Also saw a few blue crabs underwater (the water is clear enough you can see them!). You can hear the ocean for the entire distance. Though short by hiking standards, this is one of the better hikes in extreme southeast Texas.

This trail is located in Sea Rim State Park. It was more of a walk than a hike though. It was a quick 3/4 mile loop all on a a board walk over a marsh. There were plenty of birds for those who are into those things - egrets, ducks, etc. I was told there may be alligators so you should be careful around the sections that were overgrown with swamp grass. I didn't see any, but perhaps I should have gone around dusk or dawn when they would be out for food.

The Gambusia Marsh boardwalk trail is only about .75 mile but it is so unique with chance to see a variety of water life. Today, our first visit, we saw funny water crabs, pretty black/red birds, ducks? And we missed seeing the baby alligators but think we heard them. Very neat!
Now, the terrible amount of sea weed on the 5 mile beach ended our day early. Next time we hope to hike the park's Spoonbill Foot Trail across the highway. It's .96 mile, still short but the environment is special.

The park is under some construction so be careful when driving through. Other than being a little windy it was absolutely beautiful.
