This trail is partly paved with 0.75 to 1.0 inch rock. It has one port-a-john. It has no shade or cover for most of the way. Bring your water and food.
I recorded the trail at 19.8 miles.
Creek ‘loop’ is well worth a quick stop. Historical site is well maintained and interesting. Well worth a stop if you are traveling through the area.
Unbelievably pretty hike. Short, but full of gorgeous scenery, like rock formations, springs, wildflowers, insects, birds, & animal tracks. Especially lovely in the springs. Moderately challenging, with many rocks, stones, & wet areas. Can be made longer by meeting up with the West Bank trail down the road at the end of the hike.
Short but awesome
Real nice trail. Went out on a Tuesday afternoon and never saw another person. Will be back for sure.
great area....it is about 1bmile from start to finish. ranger tip of the day: stay in where grass is low ....plenty of rattlers in the area and they dont like to go in the open or low grass area.

Kicking Bird Trail is a short loop that goes into a wooded area along a shallow creek. We did this trail in a heavy downpour, and we both got soaked. In spite of that, we really had a great time.
This trail follows the south|west bank of Lost Creek. It is a very easy hike, and is well maintained. Great views, and a good chance of seeing whitetail deer and many birds.
A little used trail that follows the north|east bank of Lost Creek. It goes by a (dry) spring that comes out of a rock bluff of the creek bank. The trail is quite rocky and has several trees that have blown down across the trail.
Fort Richardson was the northernmost of a series of forts to protect settlers from Indian attacks. The State of Texas has restored several of the buildings and the park has a tour each day at 10AM and 2PM. The post hospital building is quite impressive. The morgue is located behind the hospital. Other buildings include the bakery, the magazine, Enlisted barracks, Officers quarters, and the ruins of the Guard House.
