This is Phase 1 of the Possum Kingdom trail system. There are several lookouts along the way. The trails are open to hikers and mountain bikes. This section of trail is mostly rocky terrain that is very well maintained. There are large maps posted along the trails as well. Show more

NOTE: This is a kayaking/canoeing route along the John Graves Scenic Riverway. This is not a hiking or biking trail. The John Graves Scenic Riverway is a Texas state designated stretch of the Brazos River that runs thru Palo Pinto and Parker Counties. Completely primitive, the most popular stretch runs 20 miles from Texas Hwy 16 down to near Palo Pinto at Texas Hwy 4. Shallow river running thru hills known as the Palo Pinto Mountains. Several minor rapids, the most dangerous being a class 0 below the Hwy 4 bridge. Camping available on numerous gravel bars. Spring is the busiest time. Water level depends on releases from Possum Kingdom Lake. Usually is some dragging of canoes / kayaks thru shallow areas. There are no access roads, no facilities. Very little cell phone coverage. No hiking trails, no mountain bike trails. Keep off of private property that borders the river on either side. Canoe and kayaks only. Bring what you need, pack everything out.Show more

Very nice 2.5 mile trail from the trailhead to the dam and back.  You will wind through some very nice trees and off-road terrain before it opens up and you are at the dam site with beautiful streams. No hunting or campfires.Show more
