As of 11/3/18, the trail is still under water.

Hard to believe you’re in Texas when you’re on this trail. Good trail diversity with many beautiful water views.

Started the hike at 9 AM 80° and finished out and back (7 miles) at noon 92° on a Saturday. Very little elevation overall, 40% shaded. Make sure to bring enough water. Saw a total of five bikers, two horses, and two other people the entire trail. Nice hike, very peaceful along the lake shore!

I’ve hiked this before with my dog and would consider it moderate, not easy. It is very rocky, has steep inclines and declines, and also very narrow in some areas. There are also several little wooden bridges made by local mtb groups. It’s a beautiful trail and pretty fun since it’s not flat. I can state this is not an “Easy” mtb trail and I likely won’t bike it until we gain a little more experience with mountain biking.

Beautiful single track trail. A few views of the lake. Lots of shade!

Fun trail with a bit of terrain change but not very diverse in scenery. Perfect for spring or early fall hikes, a nice reprieve from the city and not bad considering there aren’t tons of developed trail systems in the area. Be advised that this is a shared path. Watch out for a multitude of mountain bikers, many of whom think they are riding in the X-Games and don’t bother to announce themselves and expect you to move out of the way for them.

My 4 stars are another woman’s 5 star. I like this unique trail. I suspect that anyone who doesn’t give it at least 3 stars either wants to keep this place a secret or wants something paved

Great trail for hiking. The start of the trail is shared with bikes, but I did not encounter any on my path. There is a lot of ups and downs and some narrow switchbacks. This trail is really quiet and peaceful. There was a family behind me briefly at the start, but I did not see any one else on the way out and only met one biker going in. There is a nice rest area toward the end of the trail with benches, but there is still another 20 min. to the end of the trail. The turnaround is very rocky and ends along the shore of the lake.

I loved that this trail is a bit overgrown... it really feels natural and lovely. My three kids adored it too. This is the first trail I’ve hiked in Texas that I’ve truly enjoyed.

We really enjoyed this hike. There was just enough ups and downs to keep it interesting and not super hard. Very peaceful area! There were bikers and other hikers/walkers but definitely not crowded. We'll be back.

My 11 year son and I went. The trailhead is basically non-existent and you have to walk between a patch of land at the back of houses. It then opens up a bit but the serpentine trails are not exactly well marked and close together so you end up on one side and another. Getting down to the lake is nice with good views. Got a bit lost on the way back but found our way out. It could use a bit of TLC with more markers and cleared out trails.

Wow! This is a quiet, beautiful place to hike, mountain bike and horseback ride. And it seems that since it is a little hidden and off the beaten path somewhat, not that many people know it exists. The Town of Flower Mound built a paved road to it (though you go from paved to gravel coming off of Dunham Rd before getting to the paved park section) and a decent size parking area loop - with room for horse trailer vehicles to pull in and through when parking. There are many loops there - some for horses & hikers only, others for mountain bikers and hikers only. Just after starting out you have a split trail option to go to the southwest to connect into the east end of the Knob Hills Trail system or to the west/southwest to go down under the neighborhoods off Pocahontas and behind Chimney Rock and eventually all the way along the north shores of Lake Grapevine to the south end of High Road. Moderate terrain that is fairly easy. A few up & down elevation changes starting out but then flatter and easier when getting to the sections along the lake. The mix of woods to open areas on the eastern section we walked on this trip is about 35% woods to 65% open areas. The evening views of the sunset along the water is gorgeous! Will be back to hike & explore more of the trails in the future for sure!!

This is a natural trail (no paved sidewalk). I suggest to spray bug spray on you before going. It felt like a camping trail. It is a difficult trail; there are many hills. I went hiking and loved it!

Definitely overgrown, but a nice natural alternative to the many concrete trails in the area. After the first few hundred yards you won't see any more houses or fences unless you divert off the trail. Do bring your phone to track the trail. It's easy to miss it in some places.

It's completely overgrown and poorly marked. Bring a machete if you want to give it a shot.

Another weird trail that runs along people's property lines. Seems like there is just no place around here to walk without seeing houses.

~ Edan's Trailing Adventure Review ~

My husband and I try one new trail a weekend, below are our thoughts about Purple Coneflower / Flowermound Trail:

Ease of Location: ** 2 Stars; Directional map within All Trails app doesnt take you to the entrance. The best thing to do is analyze the trail map via the below link and set your GPS to the surrounding park of your choice.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.flower-mound.com/DocumentCenter/View/11420&ved=0ahUKEwjizuPv6PDSAhVB6iYKHYYRAZYQFgglMAE&usg=AFQjCNGo9Wm3jjKP8o3bFJoBni6BFT72hQ&sig2=sdNqI91w8r24baWmVpOFFA

Trail: *** 3 Stars; the trail itself is paved and wide enough for a couple to comfortably take its path. Although some app users tagged this particular trail as hiking appropriate, we didnt see any dirt trails or hiking opportunitues. The path, however, is kept very clean and marked with hip-height wooden posts that say "Purplecone Flower Trail"

Fun: ** 2 Stars; The trail is 8 miles long and we only walked a 4 mile section, however there's nothing much to see other than the back of a school and the back of people's houses. We did pass a very cute pond with LOTS of turtles, other than that it was 4 miles of nothing particularly special.

Special Tip ~ Not a good trail for listening to headphones. There's a lot bicycle riders on this trail of all ages. From adults riding for exercise to groups of neighborhood children whizzing by. Some people announce themselves as they pass but most don't. Unless you want to get run-over, best not to wear anything that would inhibit hearing what's around you.

flat and paved. easy to walk with no traffic

This trail has the potential to be fantastic but I was very disappointed at the lack of trail markers and then the eventual lack of a trail. There were multiple occasions where I had to use both the previously mapped hikes on this app and my own GPS to figure out where I was supposed to be and eventually even that failed me as I trekked through completely unmarked and very dense vegetation to get back to a known good spot. I only ended up getting about a mile and a half worth of hiking from this trail today (14May2016).
