Easy trail. no shade. so the earlier the better

Definitely challenging. View in the top is one of the best views of El Paso. It took me nearly 5 hours to fully complete yet I am a beginner and I stopped often . Take as much water as you can and start early (park opens at 8) to beat the heat. I started late and that’s what killed me.

Believe the "hard" review on this one. It's true. I can usually fly through a rated hard hike fairly easily, but this one gave me a run for my money! It is a STEEP climb with a lot of climbing on all fours. The views of the canyon and both sides of el paso are amazing, however. If you're in the right shape, I highly recommend it.
The chains look intimidating, but they're easy as long as ya stay close to the wall and go slow.

Beautiful view of the Sun rising when started early enough. A friend and I hiked this trail recently and the property owners have placed more trespassing signs. We came across someone working on the antennas but he didn't seem worried about us passing through. I can't say that they will not enforce the no trespassing message, I'm going avoid this one for a while. The route will need editing to keep people from getting in trouble.

Not sure where the app is taking us for the start point. Its just a neighborhood with no access to the trail, but once on the trail its a really nice walk.

Pretty easy hike, and the view at the top is amazing!

It’s moderated! I enjoy that hiking along with my 6yr old he made it to the top we had two brake one going up and one coming down.

Amazing views, a must do if you’re in good enough shape and have an entire morning to kill in the area. Me and my two friends got it done in about 3 and a half hours with ample breaks to take in the views and hydrate.

The inclined can be tough, and the terrain is rocky and not always super stable. Hiking boots are a must.

Recommend hitting this trail early in the morning while temps are lower and to avoid heat exhaustion. No need to bring backpack. Just a water source and phone. Awesome trail. Amazing views at the top. Watch out for loose rocks and footing on the descent. Have fun!

I can usually hike the “hard” trails no problem, but the Ron Coleman trail is certainly challenging! After hiking this it is now one of my favorite trails and I’m certainly coming back for more. Bring plenty of water and sturdy shoes. Also be mindful that there are small vertical “cliffs” that you need to ascend but the park provides chains to help you up. Keep your eye out for the big green collared lizards that live near the trail also! Fantastic trail.

Awesome trail y’all!
I recommend anyone who tries this trail to please keep the following into account.

1. Have respect for nature ! ( emphasis on respect)
2. Be very aware of your surroundings and know your limits. Be smart & turn back if you can’t keep going.
3. Trail rated as hard, it is.
4. Be prepared with enough water and smart snacks to keep you going.
5.) keep an eye out for blue dots that pave the way, you can also use the AllTrails map, you will need it.

You’ll be hiking up hill a lot and eventually be reaching the peak of the mountain, the hike then switches between hiking along that and the side of the mountain. It’s important you follow the blue dots so that you can locate the trail you can get into danger if you don’t stay aware.

Have fun and may the mountain gods be with you. This hike definitely offers great views which aren’t meant for the faint of heart or those who are afraid of heights.
Be safe and have fun!

You definitely need to hike this in a group of 2 or more people. There are some difficult spots on this trail. I wouldn't take this trail if you aren't semi experienced. There are a couple spots that you may need to climb. I hiked this trail with 3 other guys back in 2006. We started at Mckelligon Canyon and made it to Transmountain. Recommend planning around the weather.

I had walked this trail back in 2006 with a few buddies of mine. This is a great trail and very well kept. I found it pretty easy to hike. It does have some decent inclines in a couple areas. Once you get to the peak you have some great views of El Paso and the surrounding area.

Very nice trail, not too long not to steep, with wonderful views of the Franklin Mountains. You walk near a beautiful small canyon contemplating a nice landscape.

Difficult hike but the view is breathtaking and worth it

best trail ever!

Really fun, want to do this one the other way around. perfect morning with a little overcast then finished up on lower Sunset trail.

Awesome hike but very challenging! The first 15mins of the hike is mainly on big, loose gravel. Followed by a nice shallower path. To get to the division of Tin Mines and North Franklin took me 45mins with a good tempo. From there the trail got very narrow and rocky...took me an hour to get to the top. The view is awesome! I like that this trail brings you on both sides of the mountains before leading to the top. Worth the hike but very difficult.

Hiked the old tin mine trail into the mountains and returned to starting spot via the cardiac hill trail. Nice easily marked trail. Round trip was about 5 miles.

Not very challenging but a nice hike through the scenery. I loved that they have trail maps at the parking area. I was able to pick my route while I was hiking, using the map. Had a lot of time left so I went to the Aztec Caves after, which are only a 7mile drive away. Nice area!
