#6 - Malaquite Beach Walk
Padre Island National SeashoreLength: 4.6 mi • Est. 1 h 52 m
Hikers can begin their Padre Island beach hike at just about any point along this 60-mile stretch of undeveloped barrier island by driving to it as long as they have a four-wheel-drive vehicle and know how to negotiate sand. Most beaches in Texas are considered public highways. But if hikers wish to beachcomb without the annoyance of vehicular traffic, no matter how infrequent, their only option on this national seashore is to hike Malaquite Beach, the section of the beach where vehicles are not allowed. Be advised, however, that North Padre, like South Padre, is a favorite of college spring breakers.
