Great views. Start early and bring water.

I loved this trail. It is a little rocky and in some points, like while reaching the lighthouse, there is a small scramble, but it is so much fun! The views from the beginning of the trail are stunning. On the AllTrails map, the trail continues from the end of the Lighthouse trail, but it doesn’t go the direction it suggests. I went out to the road and followed the Paseo del Rio trail back to the trailhead of GSL, which was not the exact same as marked on the map but worked out well. Palo Duro Canyon is a gorgeous place, and this trail enables you to see a lot of it. *Bring lots of water! Throughout most of the trail there is very little shade, which I expected. I brought two camel pouches and drank them all. I came upon a girl who was hiking the lighthouse trail and got separated from her group, lost, and had only brought one bottle of water, which she ran out of halfway there. I was able to refill her bottle without putting myself out. Take more than you think you need!

Loved this trail ..getting to the lighthouse was just as scenic if not more than the loghthouse itself. Trail is in great shape. Highly recommend!

Medium difficulty, amazing views, a little overgrown and confusing in a couple spots.

Trail flat for the most part with gentle inclines. Packed dirt easy to walk on. Be sure to climb up into the big cave off the Jupiter Canyon section of trail. You’ll see others up there. Little shade so go early in the day if it’s hot out.

Nice easy trail with lots of shade and views of the water. Bugs can be bad in the summers. If you are trying to find the dugout, there is a sign that points you towards it off of Paseo. Good for kids and for those just wanting a nice walk. Also a great way to make GSL and Lighthouse into a loop.

This trail is the only other trail besides Rock Garden that takes you from the floor of the canyon up to the rim. If you are a geology fan, this trail is great as you can see the different layers of the canyon up close. Taking the Goodnight Peak scenic loop is a nice viewpoint off this trail as well. Many people have issues staying on this trail because so many people have made their own paths, but just keep looking for the trail markers and you will be fine!

Awesome views on this trail! I have hiked in PDC for 10+ years and always enjoy this one. If you are not used to steep trails this one may not be for you. Lots of birds off this trail in the winter.

I only saw one other person on the trail, not for the faint of heart for those worried about wildlife encounters. Great if you seek solidarity. Don’t forget to sign book at the end.

I did this trail in late April and loved it. Very different from Lighthouse trail. It was a great work out. When you get to the top I suggest walking on along the rim of the canyon for a while. The trail is close to the rim and provides some great views. Highly recommend!

Elevation gain is a good workout, decent to great views the entire trail. Paths are well built for the most part.

I promise this will be an uphill battle 80% of the way and the last section will be the longest mile of your life. I did see elderly and children on the trail tho.. It’s not for the soft minded tho Beautiful views

I have hiked this trail many times and it’s always a treat. In the summer-start early. The trail will wind around and reach the top of the canyon. You will not see a sign noting that you reached the trails end. If you still want to see some pretty views when you reach the top, turn left and follow the trail for another mile or so to see beautiful views off the top of the canyon. As someone said earlier, it is a must to take lots water and go early to all the trails in this special place.

Google maps takes you to a different trailhead. Start at the visitor center or the amphitheater for correct trailhead. Very easy. Really nice hike with views.

We decided to hike this trail for as it is longer than the Lighthouse trail. Going to the Lighthouse via the GSL Trail was more scenic than The Lighthouse Trail so if you’re willing to hike an extra three miles round trip I’d definitely recommend going this route. Bring plenty of water as the hike has very little shade along the path. Also, be mindful of your surroundings as this is a popular bike trail.

It was 80 degrees when we started, but quickly went up to the mid 90s. There’s a constant incline on the way up, which I’m usually fine with. However, with the sun beating down on us it made the way up a lot more difficult. There’s no shade along this trail so be sure to bring lots of water!
