Really really cool trail (but very easy... not sure how the Moderate designation came to be). takes you down to the opposite side of Boquilla canyon. On the other side of the river was an old Mexican gentleman singing songs which could easily be heard since the river is knly about 40 feet wide right there.

Very easy 3/4 of the way, the last quarter of the hike involves a bit of a scramble to get to the end view and see balanced rock. Best done early morning as there’s no shade along the trail. The drive up is also unpaved, our car was able to make but the car behind us had to turn around about half way there.

Great little walk to see the window view if you don't get the chance to do the longer window view trail.

I enjoyed this trail. I did it on a drizzly day in 70 degree weather. It would probably be a different review if it had been sunny, as most of the trail is quite exposed. I enjoyed the views of the mountains, and the plants and insects I saw along the way. I found this trail to be easy, well marked, and with few other hikers.

HikingNo shadeScramble

Easy trail with gorgeous surroundings and an awesome payoff at the end. The dirt road to get to the trailhead is a bit bumpy, so be sure your vehicle can handle it. I was lucky enough to do this trail in cool October weather, but there’s no shade on the hike until you get to the boulders, so be ready for the sun. The final stretch is a little bit of a scramble, but it’s easy enough and once you get to the top, you’ll have some epic views. Can’t wait to hike this one again!

Very short trail . Our campsite was close so I was able to get some pictures when the sun was rising. The previous evening we had done the actual trail . This was perfect for morning coffee views .

Easy trail, mainly flat except when you get closer to the boulders. Recommend doing it early morning or in the evening. This trail has no shade, it’s a lot of desert .

Boquillas Canyon is an amazing sight all should see. I took the trail back as far as I could go, but it would be nice if they put up a marker so all would know exactly where that point is. There are spots on the trail down by the river that is overgrown, sometimes with thorny bushes. There were about 10 spots from the parking lot to the end where folks from across the river had set our trickers for sale. There were also several sheltered areas where I could see them watching me to see if I bought anything, or perhaps stole anything, so beware. I started at about 12:30, and it was well over 100 degrees. I found out later it was 114, so bring lots of water or pick a better time.

Hiking

The hardest part of this trail was getting there - 6 miles on what the park calls an "unpaved road." It's extremely rocky and I had to go anywhere from 10-25 mph in my Honda CR-V. The trail itself is very easy and fun. The first 3/4 is clearly marked and very easy to follow. the last 1/4 is scrambling on rocks but not too dangerous or technical. It can be easy to get turned around, but there are signs and rocks lining the trail in those areas. The Balanced Rock and the view are well worth the effort. I started early before it got too hot, later in the day it was about 105 degrees.

Pretty easy trail . Less than an hour to balanced rock. Great views and the balanced rock is well worth the short hike. This app comes in handy. The trail is mostly marked but you can get turned around a little in the rocks.

sunset at the window did not disappoint. Do Chisos Basin loop right next door for a warm-up; that's what we did. paved and extremely short loop with some informative displays.

we saw some really interesting birds here but the highlight was running into a bear sow + 2 Cubs on one of the switchbacks! we heard some rustling in the bushes at the turn, didn't think anything of it and started taking selfies. more rustling. ok something big. Let's start backing away slowly. look up and see two Cubs climbing in the tree immediately off one side of the trail 15 feet away. we didn't see the Mamma, until we circled back and traced our steps back up the trail, and even then it was at a distance. very exciting!
