It was a beautiful morning and I had the trails all to myself. I did not see another person on the trail. Cedar Chopper is pretty muddy right now, but as long as you watch your step you’ll be ok. Dogleg canyon trail was beautiful. The rock formations and the water coming down was fascinating, I loved it. Plenty of shade on this part. I thought the river trail was kind of boring compared to the rest. There was water a few inches deep on parts of the trail, but if you have waterproof shores it’s not problem. This was my first hike in YEARS so I cut back on Cedar to head home. I will go the reverse direction next time to catch the other trails.

Most of the trail is pretty flat, just really rocky so watch your footing! The very end gets steep where the falls are. Great trail, but can get challenging when it gets hot. Be prepared to have alot of water!

Variety of scenery.... river front, cliffs edge, pasture.

If you decide to hike this trail as a loop trail I suggested hiking up the canyon, to the right, first. You will get your ascent done first and enjoy some pretty views of the river. Once you come down the canyon you begin crossing the creek several times. You can avoid getting your boots wet if you are very careful. The scenery in the creek is spectacular. There are plenty of places to stop and get your feet wet. There is small pool where you can swim. I would suggest wearing boots for the ascent and bring water shoes for the creek. There is one very slick area by the small pond. Be careful. Make this one of your hikes if you are visiting Colorado Bend State Park.

One of my favorite parks! This is the best place to be for star gazing, spelunking, kayaking, and hiking. A buddy of mine frequents to mountain bike, as well.

Overall a nice trail. Mostly pretty rocky and it has some areas where you will have to take your time. the view of the falls makes it worth it. Don't come on a sunny day, there is little to no shade most of the trail. I took my two German Shepherd dogs and they seemed to like it.

The park map lists this trail as Very Challenging. Honestly, I think it is at the high end of moderate. I suspect the reason they list it like this is due to the terrain and a lot of uphill and then downhill sections. We took this trail from Gorman Falls to Cedar Chopper (north rim to south rim) It is very rocky. I took my trekking poles which I think made this even more doable. The first 1/3 of the trail isn’t overly interesting as you hike gradually uphill. Once you reach the middle 1/3 you will get closer to the edge of the top of the canyon and the views are really beautiful. This trail shuffles you in and out and around the trees and is really well shaded. You will reach a point where you begin a gradual descent into the bowl which is really neat. We stopped here and ate a snack and it was very peaceful. Once you start the trek up the south rim again you go uphill. There are some intermittent switchbacks that traverse both up and downhill but are manageable. The trail is marked all the way through just keep an eye out for the colored markers on the trees. This was one of my favorite hikes we did all day. Lots of solitude. Don’t be discouraged by the label of this trail. If you are a person who hikes regularly you should be able to complete this no problem.

Mild trail that is mostly downhill (if you go from Cedar Chopper towards the River Trail). Rocky, but not technical...just watch where you step. After traversing the first 2/3 of this trail the last 1/3 is the actual canyon area. The canyon area is beautiful with interesting rock formations...worth the short hike.

Relatively flat and easy trail with adequate shade. Honestly, one of the more bland trails in the park. However, we did this in winter when most of the plants are dormant. We used it as the connector to Dogleg Canyon.

Very nice trail, saw a lot of wildlife along the way. It’s a lot of energy for this one, but worth it.

This trail is beautiful, the views are amazing. It’s a lot of rocks along the way. I am experienced and some of the paths kicked my butt, kind of like lunges while walking. Will definitely take it again.

Awesome trails! Took the canyon route starts as a steady ascent to top and then down to bottom; spectaculars views and well marked trails. Everyone do yourself a favor and explore this wonderful park!

Started at the canyon to hike up. Came down into the spring to finish and see lots of tiny waterfalls! Loved this hike!

MODERATE? Nope. More like advanced which I can say I am now. It was absolutely beautiful though and worth the fact that I will need new legs as I can’t feel mine anymore. I also have taken the liberty upon myself to rename it Tianja Trail of Tears as in not only did I cry tears of joy at my accomplishment but I will also be crying as my ham strings regain strength. I would recommend shoes with ankle support as in the gravel can be loose. My complaint should be taken loosely — It is easily one of my favorite hikes that I will never do during the brutal Texas summer!

Great weekend trail! With easy to follow trail markers.

This trail was amazing. Some rough rocky bits, tough elevation changes, and fantastic scenery. A long trek but so worth it. Quite a bit of shade. A few spots were hard to find the path. Few artificial markers but mostly they weren't needed. The rock bowl is very unique.

Great trail! Varied scenery, mostly shaded, and well-marked. It’s rocky so wear higher-cut hiking boots to save your ankles. I was surprised to see that the Tinaja trail is rated “Very Challenging” - it wasn’t, for two fit people and an athletic dog.
