Perfect weather for a hike: Clear skies, temp around 68 and breeze from the south. We hiked the yellow loop today. First time using the All trails app during a hike. Worked great!!

The trails are very well marked by both posts and plastic streamers. Who ever hung the streamers was obviously on horseback as they are all in branches above the trail.

Trail conditions are largely excellent. There are a few spots where the ground was muddy and was stirred up from horse traffic. Those spots are passable but slow you down a bit. There are several areas where the trails are very sandy.

We had a some horse traffic today. I would warn all hikers to be on the look out for riders. We encountered some riders that were running the trails at a canter so if you're not watching for them they'll be on you quick. They at least slowed down once they saw us but there are blind corners so be aware. We ran into a very large buck about half way around. He was just 10 ft off the trail when he took off. That was the only wild life we saw.

We'll definitely be back to hike the other trails.

I walked this on a grey day in November, but it was still pretty and allowed me to forget the Metroplex for a bit. The trail was well marked and easy to follow. I saw a few birds including some birds of prey eating a dead deer. The scenery consists of grasslands, stands of deciduous trees, farmland, and a lot of ponds. They were burning brush in areas when I hiked the trail. My GPS logged the whole loop at just over 15 miles. It took me about 4.5 hours.

Nice area, but not a lot of it shaded. The trails are marked, but you really have to pay attention or you easily end up on a cow path-there are cows meandering throughout.

Fortunately I had a route on my Endomondo app to follow. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of shady areas throughout this hike. I really enjoyed it but it is quite sandy which caused a lot of extra strain on my feet/toes after about 7/8 miles. The piney wooded area was quite nice and we did see a number of campers there. The trail itself was pretty empty except for 1 man on horseback and another 2 men out hiking. I would say this is better for hiking and the sand would make it difficult to do any significant running but if you want to get some miles under your feet then this is a good trail.

pretty hike, good mix of sun and shade. Mostly sand ,few rock sections. there are 3 small ponds halfway through, great for camping but avoid the first, it is infested with snakes. very limited water so take plenty.

Best and worse trail that I have ever done. This trails challenged me in ways I never thought this is only my second time doing it and I should have not waited so long to do it again but I did and it hurt so good.

Nice and easy hike. Very well marked Heavily used by horses. Start at TADRA trailhead. Restroom at trail head.

Very challenging but worth it. The terrain varies from sand to rocks and there are quite a few hills. I recommend this trail to anyone looking for a challenge.

Beautiful scenery and varied terrain. I like that you can follow one large loop and cover a lot of ground rather than looping back on yourself a bunch, just make sure you have the time before you commit, and would not recommend it in the heat. There's a lot of unshaded sections.

Hiked this trail about 5 years ago and would like to visit again. Saw plenty of signs of small wildlife such as raccoons, opossums, coyote, bobcat and deer. Most signs were seen around the watering holes which are not very common in this area.

Pretty hike. Only flaw was the quality of trail from the foot traffic of the horses leaving the trail wide and bumpy in some parts. Also would not recommend going during the summer because of the heat and there is also no access to potable water you would need to purify your own.

I enjoyed it there's a lot of different features on this trail. It's good to hike but my legs were like jello after we finished it.

trail running

Run this trail year round. Fairly sandy trails, rolling hills, some shady spots but mostly open, great views. Bring plenty of water with you if its hot. Not heavily used but will likely run into mountain bikers occasionally and likely folks on horseback. During the week I've been out here and never run into anyone for hours on end. Open for hunting so wear bright colors(orange), be loud and stay on marked trails during the season.

I would rate this as a strenuous hike in the summer at least. We did the 14 mile blue loop and it was challenging no doubt. There was very little tree covering, about 90% of the hike, we were out in the open. I would say about 50% of the trail is soft sand-hard to get traction and slowing us down. It gave us a sense of what the desert feels like. There was not drinking water anywhere and there was virtually no areas where you could get help if needed. There was no shortcut to get back. In other words, once you begin hiking, you will need to complete the entire 14 miles. I had 4 16oz bottles of water and it still was not enough. I loved the hike and I am always looking for a good challenge. I would do this again.
