Beautiful trail, some step points that are more moderate than easy also drops that are steep when you get near the canyon. Beautiful and easy to follow path with signs. It is 1.75 miles

Great hike with beautiful views. Take the double falls side trail. It has a great campsite and a beautiful creek!

Nice trail but depending on how you go the bridge is out two miles in.

Nice trail, scenery changes as you go. Not strenuous at all!

The best part of this trail is the natural bridge over water to the island

Fun trail very nice. Be aware you do have to go up and down ladders

Very good hike with many great land features. So far though, this is the best lookout we have seen within easy hiking from the start. Within 1 mile or so you will be on top of a bluff overlooking a gorgeous scenery across the land. Too bad we missed the fall colors by a week or so. This would be a serious Ansel Adams photo op.

Short, easy loop with an out and back to the overlook. That’s the reason for the hike. The view of the canyon is spectacular. I was here on a Saturday morning and had the trail to myself. Calming to just sit in the quiet of the overlook for a while. And don’t miss the wildflowers growing around the parking lot at the trail head.

Easy trail to hike, lots of neat vegetation to check out along the trail. Pretty view of canyon at the overlook

The John Muir connection at mile 5 (not the one at mile 6!) no longer exists. This was a fantasic hike with huge rockhouses at least every mile. FYI when viewing photos, scale is always very difficult to capture. Many of them are 80+ ft tall and several hunderd ft long. The one at 3.5 miles is distinctly different than the others in that it light gray and much larger, perhaps it's sandstone? The others are mostly darker stone, wet and mossy, including one out of a story book with a waterfall that the trail brings you under (3.5 miles before the cliff mentioned above). Blueberries growing everywhere (July) and bears are definitely around. We didn't see any but did find droppings. Wonderful hike, especially for stargazing. Pickette has the darkest skies in the southeast. Go at a new moon and stay at the campsite .4 miles down the double falls trail. Wait for it to get dark and hike back up to the top for the view with your headlamps and enjoy. The Double Falls trail is not marked on the AllTrails layer of the map but you will see it on the OSM layer just before Thompsons overlook.

Trial was well maintained when I went through. Connects to a few other cool trails in the area. The Natural Cave is worth a side trip. Fairly overgrown in some areas, but the majority is well cleared and marked.
