Camp at top of first Vista. You will not regret it. Great campsite tucked away off to the left if you keep an eye out for it

Cool rock formations and gorgeous rapids, including at the bridge. Late afternoon provided great light for photos of the cliffs from the bridge. The washout was still there at 1.1 miles on 11-13-20. Use hiking poles and tree branch support and you should be fine. I would not suggest hiking this trail after a lot of rain.

The trail was quite beautiful with different things to see in a variety of settings along the way. It was worth the drive there to explore this area.

Beautiful trail. Soft and very little roots or rocks. I give it a moderate plus rating. Angle Falls Lookout is worth every step! Even tho, no rain; we camped next to the Cumberland valley and a cloud of moisture locked in and caused little drops of water to fall all night.

The stone on the trail is indeed frustrating; we took this with our two 9 year olds though and they really enjoyed it. I was starting to get a little nervous about the view towards the end of the hike as we continued to shed elevation, but creeping down the stone face of the hill at the end of the horse camp provided an outstanding view of the river valley and stone outcroppings that made the trek quite worth it.

HikingWashed out

Nice hike by the river and on the mountain ridge, beautiful forest. One small section (30 ft?) of the trail was washed out, but it is still doable with care. Moderate in some spots, lots of areas look more like stairs of rocks or roots, but very nice. Massive rocks!! Sandy in sections. It was dry today, I can see how it could be more challenging under different weather conditions. Did it with my small dachshund and he loved the scents of the forest! Lots of nice pictures, too. Don’t imagine an incredible destination once you make it to the bridge- it’s one of those that the fun is in the journey. Still, the view from the bridge is incredible too!

A nice comfortable hike, in the shade, well marked. Huge boulders, several areas to sit down and enjoy a picnic or just simply see the beautiful Big South Fork River. There are several rapids, and when we went, we sat on huge flattened rocks and enjoyed the cold water in our feet. Perfect for children and dogs. What a view!

if you don't want to do all of it i suggest beginning at divide road intersection with John Muir trail. this cuts 0.7 mile off of descent into massey branch drainage and puts you 1.7 miles from Rock creek drainage and good camping spots along the creek. several excellent spots along rock creek to camp. this a good out and back for old farts and out of shape folks. rate it on the easy side of moderate.

HikingGreat!

At around the 1 mile point, the trail is almost impassable due to the sand being washed out leaving a very narrow ledge to walk on. The alternative was a very slippery detour that is dangerous due to mud and steepness. This section really needs some work on it. After getting past that, the rest of the trail was well maintained and a beautiful hike. Hopefully the dangerous spot will get some repair soon.

Fairly level trail but there was a lot of rocks. If you have sensitive feet or weak ankles , beware. The falls is actually not a falls especially when the water is down but the huge boulders are very cool !

HikingGreat!Muddy

Did this on Sunday, solo hike. Felt like I had the whole trail to myself. Started with Slave Falls Loop, then Charit Creek to Twin arches. Made it about half way to arches but turned around due to concern of running out of day light for the trip back. Trip was good, muddy in spots where you cross creeks, a few down tree's to climb over or under but all and all a great hike. Logged about 11 miles total but at any point could have turned back sooner to shorten it. Next trip I'll start out earlier and push to do all 3 legs.
