Beautiful hike on a cold December day. Well worth it

Beautiful hike at the beginning of December. It was hard to follow the trail in a couple of places because the trail was blanketed with wet leaves

Absolutely gorgeous!

Easy trail. Get the best views from the Angel Falls Overlook. Next time, I'd omit the Grand Gap Loop portion.

Absolutely stunning trail, I may be biased since I'm a geologist but the sandstone formations are gorgeous and you also have the arches. North arch is by far the more photogenic but they are both exceptional. The hike down to Charrit Lodge is well marked and well graded. The lodge was a great place to break for lunch as they have many picnic tables. The hike up through Jake's Place and back to the top was a fairly consistent uphill grade that never was strenuous.

The arches and around the arches were cool.

We completed this loop this past weekend, choosing to do the downward slope first. The views were beautiful, despite most of the leaves already fallen however the path was littered with fallen leaves which was good as the trail was often muddy at times, due to the recent rains.

We took photos of each campsite along the creek. There's also a campsite near the parking lot on your right as you are entering the trailhead.

Rock formations are beautiful, take the time to look around to see huge cliffs nearby. you are in a valley and there are some steep steps at times. Hiking poles are definitely a must!

This is a fantastic trail and well maintained. We started clockwise but we didn’t have time to finish the entire loop. What we did see was worth it. It’s a bit of a drive but it’s worth it. Very peaceful, we saw tons of birds, mushrooms and the leaves were gorgeous. The hike along the creek is breathtaking. We went clockwise on the trail so it made for a pretty steep drop near the beginning into the gorge. I would recommend trekking poles. We are experienced hikers and we found them very helpful.

Great trail. Not to difficult. A bit rocky in some parts, and one small steep incline, but not bad at all. The bridge was nice, and the rock features were awesome.

Beautiful, easy nature walk. Many trails in Big South Fork are suffering from the funding cuts (not their fault), but this popular trail is in great shape. Lots of interesting boulders and trees along the river. We went after a week of flooding and the trail had drained well.

"Angel Falls" is not a waterfall, it's just rapids, but it's still pretty.

Great trail to see so many of the beautiful wonders of the Cumberland Plateau and the surrounding areas. Nice day hike but an even better overnight experience.

The geology is stunning from the rock houses to the majestic twine arches. Worth the spur off to see Slave Falls. Encountered several snakes, one small black bear and enjoyed several yellow jacket stings durning an overnight camping trip with a group of Boy Scouts.

Very nice trail. Quite flat, with only a handful of steep spot, all of them very short. Also well marked and most of the way it is wide enough for 2 side by side.
Several rock faces to walk under, some with falling runoff. Also a few large boulders. Half of the loop runs along a creek so there is a chance to refill water if you need it. Small falls near the halfway point.
It doesn’t offer scenic views unless you take the finger to the gap.
The farm is pretty cool from an historical standpoint. Most of the timbers in the barn were axe hewn, so it is largely original.
Overall a fun quiet hike. It was in the low 80s but most of the trail felt cooler than that. We went thought a liter of water each. Stepped over a 20”ish copperhead slithering across the path. Also saw a big pile of black bear scat that was maybe 24 hours old...so there is at least 1 best around there.

This was a fun loop. Easy trail to follow. We saw lots of interesting mushrooms, bear poop, coyote poop and had a fairly big copperhead cross our path. We only passed 2 people.

Great little trail. The overlook is a great one. My wife and I saw a Timber rattler on the trail on our way back. Definitely a memorable experience.

Outrageously beautiful!! Just spectacular and so totally awesome! Was an absolutely gorgeous day to hike!! (Labor Day ) There’s so much that I could say....you just have to go yourself-you won’t be disappointed!! The trail was pretty well marked with the exception of the last 2 miles-you must climb over and around the boulders to continue on the trail and finish up!

Well what can I say about this trail, nothing but good. My husband and I walked the whole loop and we saw everything from rock formations, streams with rapids, a beautiful flower garden with butterflies, and even a lodge with places to stay over night with a restaurant to eat at, halfway though the loop trail “ bonus”! It was well worth the hike even if we both were damn tried at the end. 

More of a peaceful walk than a hike, and no view of any real “falls”. However it was enjoyable

Good trail and super easy but I will admit I was expecting a decent size fall. It was still fun though.

Nice hike in the Leatherwood area. The overlook is just 3 miles from the trailhead. Also worth noting that the start is across the bridge down the stair case. Overlook was a nice view of the Bsf River valley

Hiked this trail this afternoon along with a little side trip for a total of 7.1 miles from my campsite in Bandy Creek Campground. This trail is better suited for horseback riding due to many muddy spots and a stream crossing. I am giving the trail 4 stars but I would definitely give the campground 5 stars as it is one of the best national campgrounds with a plethora of hiking trails!

Just completed the south side of the trail with two of my four Shih Tzu companions. This part of the trail was much easier to follow than the north side that I did on my previous visit and took less than two hours. Well worth the effort.

While camping at Bandy Creek this week, I have done two partials and a full counterclockwise hike on this very nice trail. This morning I was joined by my four Shih Tzu companions in their dog stroller on the last third of the loop which was a hilly gravel road. Interesting old farm.

The hike was 2.2 miles but felt like forever! The beginning of the trial was alright but then it got boring. Also the end result wasn’t really worth the hike in the first place. My friends and I went on August 2nd and in result to that one of them got Rocky Mountain spotty fever,( which is deadly if not caught early). We all got ate up my several seed ticks. It’s not a terrible trail but I won’t be going back.

This trail is absolutely amazing and beautiful. The overlook is stunning and it makes the climb totally worth it. However, make sure to be extremely careful and to look out for potentially dangerous animals. My friends and I camped overnight in a campsite near the main overlook and we spotted a mountain lion that hissed and growled at us on the way back to the campsite from the overlook. The next morning we saw 2 Black bear cubs and their mom as well as a few snakes.

Needed a break from really frigid weather these past three weeks. What a delightful, well-marked/maintained trail with natural arches to see. Today, 25 Jan. 2018, was clear blue @ low 50's. Highly recommend this trail and other area trails to refresh your soul.

Diverse trail and the twin arches are stunning!

Took a 4 yo who walked and a 2 yo who rode. All had fun. Incredible wonder to find in the middle of nowhere.

Atop of the south arch offers so beautiful views.
