Nice, quick fix for a trail run near the city. However, it's really geared more for mountain bikers than it is for hiking or trail running. Should be noted that the place feels a little seedy and I wouldn't recommend going alone.

Great hike with my wife and daughters!

The concrete trail is wide and in great repair! It had been raining hard for several days before I hiked the trail and there were no wet or muddy spots and that is huge for me. So why only three stars? Users are trashing the trail. There was nothing scenic about the trail. Finally, i was with the family and after a mile we turned around because there were no benches to let the little ones rest and we were worried we’d have to carry them if we got too far in.

nice shaded easy walk.

When I went, it was the middle of a hot day in early June. Only the north entrance was open. I encountered less than 10 other ppl during my 1.5 hours uphill towards the south parking lot then back on Wimp’s pass (begrudgingly only due to the name). It was mid-afternoon and all the people I saw appeared towards the end of my jaunt. Not over burdened by insects or “technical” terrain. The uphill was definitely that. The low way back was flat and easy. I think due to the proximity to Knoxville this system is excellent.

For what it is, it’s a great trail. A little bit of woods in the middle of the city. Just a quick getaway. Obviously it isn’t going to be Abrams falls, but it’s a good evening place to clear ur mind w a run.

I went with my mom. we both loved this trail

peaceful...

Great area to walk or exercise. All areas are paved. Restrooms are available. Safe and beautiful. Lots of birds to watch too.

Always a nice and easy hike. Great for kids with the nature center and play area.

NOT a great place to go if you have kids, or do not want to be around copious amounts of drugs and alcohol.

Took our dog with us for a walk, and almost instantly realized how much better our local parks are for this.

If you are into drugs, underage drinking, and young trashy girls in skimpy bikinis; then this is the place for you.

Very overgrown and little used. Hard to see where the trail is and would have gotten totally lost were it not for this app. Not for me.

The lake side trail up to the cemetery was a bit challenging . Other than that this place has easy hikes . Love the sights tho - very relaxing for a short Sunday hike.

Trail itself pretty easy and isn’t bad at all. However, people who visit don’t have enough respect to clean up after their self. Trash all over the place.

This is a good wooded trail BUT very buggy!! Lots of mosquitos and many little trails inside the big trail!

Nice part is there are several side trails. Trail markings could be better at times. Overall, it was good cardio!

This is one of my favorite walks at Ijams. Semi-long, but pretty easy. Beautiful views. Well-maintained. I take my eight-year-old on his bike and my three-month-old in the jogging stroller, and we all enjoy it.

The William Hastie Natural Area is just a short drive off of Chapman Hwy and is the southern most entry to Knoxville's Urban Wilderness other than the Private Land Easement that lies due east of it off the Lost Chromosome trail. The loop is moderate and less travelled than others in the KUO due to it's location and entry point and is probable used more by mountain bikers, but can be excessively muddy for that reason. It's a rather easy loop with no views to speak of and little elevation change that doesn't diverge very far off the main trail but could be attractive to someone wanting a less rigorous hike, run or mountain biking session with less traffic. The last section actually consists of private land easement but only briefly encounters any residential development.

Big disappointment because it has so much potential. It’s neat to have a nice hiking trails so close to downtown and the quarry views are fantastic. Recently the city invested a lot of money in sprucing up the main parks over look and the old fort Dickerson Civil War fort. But it’s odd that this trail doesn’t connect to the park. At least not officially. There are some unofficial trails that do connect to the park and there’s a lot of potential if they were well-kept. But, unfortunately, they are trashy and you pass by more than one homeless camp along the way. The city really needs to invest in making a complete loop around the quarry and back to the park while cleaning up and policing the park a little better. If they do that, I would give this five stars.

Did not have a good signs or directions but thankfully the bikers there were nice and showed us the way so we had a great time.

I love Ijams, there are trails for everyone from beginners to seasoned hikers.

Great easy trail with beautiful lake/river views. I love the option to hike different difficulties and change up the scenery. Normally I dislike trails with multiple trails all attached, but these were clear and not all over the place.

Directions from alltrails app are not correct. Entrance is prior to where it has you turn.

Also please note there is a leash law in TN. I encountered 2 off-leash dogs on this trail. It’s one thing if your dog obeys all commands even while distracted, it’s another if your dog runs up to my often time unfriendly and protective leashed dog and puts all of us, including my child, in danger. USE A DANG LEASH... PLEASE!

went by myself though and did not feel safe since it was pretty secluded. tons of trails

Not much of a trail, good if you’re looking for an extremely easy short walk.
But the quarry is beautiful

Favorite trail to run so far in Knoxville. Not sure if many (or any) other trails in the area where you can run for 3 hours without going over the same ground. Spectacular forest trails! Wish some of the bike trails and hiking trails were more clearly marked but I’m sure overlapping maps are out there. If your first time exploring be sure to allow extra time for an unhurried experience.
