At the beginning, the trail is wide and easy. Some people come back without completing the loop. The second half of the loop has a couple of challenging creek crossings an the path becomes narrower. At some points, it is wide for just one person. The creek views and sounds are very nice. At the end of the loop there are very old houses where just the fireplaces stand. We enjoyed this easy to moderate trail.

Great hike and some mother daughter time. We live nearby so will go again.

The hike is short and paved, too steep for wheelchairs (posted on a sign there). This trail is more for the view, which is excellent.

Nice trail. Loved the large footbridge. Made one mistake and kept hiking 1.5 after the waterfall. 6.88 total a bit much for an older guy.

Scenic hike along the creek. Several small waterfall areas. A little crowded if you're looking for seclusion but the falls is worth it.

Great hike! View was amazing from Charlie’s Bunion! There’s a toilet at the shelter (FYI

I go here by myself at least twice a year just to get in the river after a good sweat.

Really nice trail though definitely a workout. No holes in the trail and awesome views. The waterfalls at the top are worth the hard work!

Beautiful, relaxing walk. Nice little waterfall, also.

Beautiful falls. Tough hike up. But worth it.

Great hike! Did this with the wife on 5-11-18 and had a great time. The creek was next to the trail for the majority of the hike lending to the hike the wonderful sound of running water. The forest was so very lush and green this time of year as well adding to the overall experience. Not too crowded, plenty of solitude...

A beautiful hike!

I started at the Rainbow Falls Trailhead and took the Trillium Gap Trail almost all the way to Mt LeConte before making the trek back to my car. This trail will definitely get your heart rate up! It is uphill 90-95% of the time. Starts out with just some small tree roots as obstacles, but you definitely have to work your way around/over large rocks and larger roots as you get closer to Grotto Falls. A walking stick (or two) is a must, as are good hiking shoes. There are a few small creeks to cross, but nothing deep or difficult. I was the only one on the trail from the trailhead until about a mile before the Falls, where there was a steady stream of people going to and from the Falls from a nearby parking lot. I did see two black bears and a handful of wild turkeys within the first two miles on the TG trail. Very little wildlife otherwise (besides tons of flies & mosquitos - bring bug repellant for sure!). It was my first time hiking, and even though I had physically prepared for it, I was definitely very sore the next day.

The waterfall is breathtaking. We continued our hike up Cove Mountains. It isn’t the most scenic hike but a great workout. Would definitely recommend.

fairly moderate for the most part. there are a couple of rough patches, but more than worth it for the view.

The trail road ride was amazing. Had beautiful views and many areas along the road to pull over and take in the scenes and take pictures. Then you can hike up Grotto Falls, which you won’t regret. The trail is easy and accessible to the falls. We hiked it during the month of May, 2018 and the weather was perfect, not hot and definitely not cold. The water at the falls was that typical cold mountain water that’s just waiting for you to dip your feet in, so yes, go ahead.

Great hike. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but not too difficult! The trail is continually climbing up to the falls. Beautiful mini falls leading up to the "Rainbow Falls." The scenery leading up to the falls was simply amazing.

Great trail. Challenging towards the top 1/4 mike. Good idea to get there early and soak the view in, with as few people as possible. The last section of the trail is completely blocked off due to the fire but you get an awesome view with the new observation deck. As of 5/2018 the chimney tops are gaining some color back and that’s a refreshing sight. Definitely will be doing this trail again next time in the GSM.

Should be rated MODERATE. I truly loved this hike, especially because I learned that I could continue on an additional 1.3 Miles and reach Charles Bunion! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

As a novice hiker, I chose this as my first hike. I am 40 yrs old and in slightly less than decent shape. with that being said, this hike is doable for those who are motivated. the first 2 miles go by fairly easy. the 3rd mile is a bit more challenging, and the 4th mile is grinding. but, as in many cases, the effort is worth the reward as the cascades are absolutely beautiful. please keep a close hand on the little ones once you reach the cascades, especially in wet or cold weather as rocks become slippery. otherwise, enjoy the fruits of your labor!

this is a difficult but doable hike for those in decent shape. the hike becomes more challenging as you progress. starts off easy for the first couple miles, moderate for the 3rd mile, then it gets more difficult. pace yourself and the effort is worth the reward. absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend starting this hike as early as possible on warmer days. you won't be disappointed if you reach the cascade. enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Trail was absolutely beautiful! Great place to enjoy Gods creation. It feels great if you go in the early morning but watch for snakes! Beautiful river and beautiful landscape!

Had a great hike. Fantastic trail with amazing views.
Enjoyed the day with my best friend.(wife)

Awesome place with amazing views. Would recommend to anyone

The views would make Drake proud.

We just did the first part, about 1+ mile in and turned around and went back. It’s very easy with just a slight upgrade on a wide, paved trail. You are no further than 30 yards from a beautiful babbling brook the entire time. Just beautiful.

Easy, pretty trail.
