Explore the most popular mountain biking trails near Chattanooga with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

I would rate this hike more easy than anything up until right before you summit. It twists and turns up rocks. Beautiful views at the top! A must see.

Loved this trail! Easy with great views, nicely shaded as well.

Did not plan accordingly. Signage wasn't the best and did not know where we were going. However they are worn paths so we didn't necessarily get lost just turned around. Views were spectacular!!

Ended up doing this trail accidentally. Very difficult, but we managed to plow thru it. 11 miles of hard hiking. Not a lot of signage throughout the hike.

Great after work 30-40 min trail run with my pup! One of my favorites. Has mountain bikers so if you’re bringing a dog, weekdays may be better with fewer bikers as some of the sections are narrow. Great elevation gain for a solid workout and awesome views from some of the high points, esp in the fall. Convenient parking area as well.

The bottom half of the loop is really well maintained, however we missed the turn on to Mountain Beautiful Trail because it’s so overgrown you could hardly tell there was a trail there at all. We decided to skip it altogether since we weren’t dressed to trek through the chest height, dense underbrush. Kind of disappointed. It would probably be a good short hike during the fall, but not so much during the summer.

This “Big Daddy” loop trail is one of my favorite and harder trail runs I’ve done. Got a little sandbagged on this one. Loved the traverse to Skyuka Springs. Hated the 2 mile climb to Bluff view Trail via John Smartt.

Fairly easy trail beautiful sunsets at the pier

Accidentally did this. Amazing Civil War signage. Not for kids.

Great trail, easy to access and has a great view

Hiked a section of this trail. Seemed mostly for bikes but I only saw hikers on the trail when we went. Lots of little up and down hills, good moderate trail. Bugs and ticks were abundant, check yourself!

Nice little loop with several nice views of the river. Definitely watch sunset on the pier.

Tons of shade! May get a little crowded in the summer because of the tourist location.

This was my first hiking experience in years, and I truly enjoyed it! I have bad knees, but I was still able to navigate well. The view was beautiful! We will be back here again, but later in the day to see the actual sunset.

Love the trail but I ran over a black snake and don’t know if I’m going back

Good for a quick trail run if you’re looking for a smooth surface, non technical, with some good ups and downs. No stream crossings. 4 mile loop makes for a nice run if you’re an out of town traveler, close to down town. Good trailhead with maps at various locations out on the trail.

first time on this trail. Very nice view of the valley and skyline. Trail is pretty easy. Started and finished at Sunset Rock. Access to SR is a bit more tough with lots of stone steps to be aware of footing.

Right IN Chattanooga, which is hard to find in many cities, this trail goes around the mountain and is very pretty. We did the full 9 miles but the best part was a very quick and steep hike up to Sunset Rock, directly up the hill with clear marked signs. If I did hikes multiple times, I would do it again for sure. Enjoy!

I’m new to mountain biking but I found this trail to be a lot of fun. Suck Creek Cycle recommended it as a good beginners trail at that it is. It’s not too technically challenging and allows you to really feel what a fast flow track is like. I enjoyed it so much I did it three times back to back, that was about all I could handle physically but it sure was fun.

Not my cup of tea. Seems like a great trail if you can’t drive out of the city and explore.

The terrain was verified with hills and dips and some fallen trees to cross. There are some old remains of stone cottages that are neat as well.

AWESOME TRAIL! Lots of variety. Beware of long stretches of ice in the winter

Nice quick trail. Pretty views of Chattanooga. The bottom portion is good for running.

hills are fun :)

Gorgeous views for the majority of the hike. At the fork stay left to continue on to Sunset Rock. 3mi round trip is accurate. Steep in some places - definitely wouldn’t take this route without decent shoes, kind of slick in some spots.

Tree down at Hill City near marker "5".
Seems a lot of confusion about trail directions. Caught up to one walking the same direction as me, met two separate runners coming the other direction.
