Fun roaming around like on another planet...

Amazing view and love the ladder....❤

The view at the end is breathtaking! This is the best easy hike ever

Short but wonderful trail. Once we got off the boardwalk and stepped into the Badlands it felt like we were standing on the moon. Easy to see how someone could get lost in the Badlands. Great views of the area all along the trail especially towards the end. Some fairly steep drop offs also! Be careful! Loved this trail!

Awesome trail! In the Badlands you feel like you are on another planet. The ladder going up made me a little nervous but I was fine on the way back down. As you reach the end of the trail you get a great view! This trail is a Badlands must do!!

My friend and I did this hike last Saturday (9/1) and it was truly magnificent!

We started our hike around 3:30 pm after having lunch and driving for about 6 and 1/2 hours from Denver. It took roughly 3 and 1/2 hours to complete, which was perfect, as we got to catch an unforgettable sunset at Saddle Pass.

Unlike where the trail starts on the map, we started our trek at the Saddle Pass Trailhead. This is a steep 0.35 trail that connects to Castle Trail from the main road. It was definitely the most challenging part of our hike, as the vast majority of the trail to follow was exceptionally flat and had very little elevation gain.

It was quite warm when we began our trek (mid 80's), but cooled off significantly in the afternoon with some cloud cover and light rain. The few rain drops that fell at sunset caused many of the tourists who made the short jaunt up the hill to scamper back to their cars. But we stuck it out for the five minutes of sprinkles, and were quickly rewarded with a breathtaking sunset all to ourselves.

We extended our trek slightly at the midway point of the loop to include the short walk over to the Window (0.2 miles) and Door (0.8) Trail viewpoints. All in all, our journey ended up being around 8 miles round trip, as opposed to the 10.5 it would have been to complete the Castle Trail in its entirety.

This is a fantastically challenging and beautiful hike! I would suggest starting where we did and completing the "Lollipop Loop", as one of the park employees called it, which includes the Saddle Pass Trail, Castle Trail and Medicine Root Loop.

Very pretty...lookout for bighorn sheep. I was there at sunrise. Stunning views as the sun rises above the badlands. Going to go back someday to show my daughter what she saw when she was six weeks old!

Be sure to go at sunrise! Absolutely stunning!!

Short, interesting little trail with a great view at the end. The ladder portion was not that difficult if you have any sense of balance. Be sure to bring water!

Just a study of the fossil and geologic age. Not a scenic trail. Good for kids to learn.

A interesting hike, although it's not for seeing badlands. It's so dry in the trail. I thought I was in another planet.

A nice hike there. The field in the end of the trail is great. Another thing impressed me is the ladder in the trail. It's exciting and funny.

One of my favorite views! the Badlands is my favorite place to be and this is one of those hikes with great views and though it's moderate it's well worth the hike! Make sure to have lots of water with you too, as it can get extremely warm even in the shade.

Short fun hike with a bit of everything that the Badlands has to offer, except prairie.

We hiked the castle trail to the medicine trail. We had some trouble at the beginning of trail starting near the north entrance. There weren't enough trail markers--we would end up at an open area with no idea which way to go & ended up at a couple of dead ends. The rest of the trail was well-marked and a mostly easy hike. It took us 2:36 to hike out to Medicine, then come back along Castle (we didn't hike the whole castle).

Gorgeous trek! We were lucky that it had rained the previous night so there was water flowing in streams and it was still relatively cool. Lots of color in rock, grass and flowers. My daughter found many small fossils along the way. .

Fun trail! I had a really good time on this short hike, but it had an amazing view at the end which made it a must!

I loved this trail! Super easy, but still fun. A breeze to follow the trail markers. Older kids would like this a lot. Good views at the end.

Fun trail! Bring lots and lots of water. I thought the ladder was fun, but if you really want to avoid it, it’s possible to go around and climb up the rocks to the left.

Cute little boardwalk. Good for kids. Repeats a lot of the information from the visitors center.

In the beginning this trail is a boardwalk, but the best part of the trail is when you get into the Badlands. Follow the yellow posts up to number 11. My kids loved this trail.

Super cool. My favorite part was the rope ladder.

This trail is shorter than the walk at the overlook. The window looking into the Badlands is spectacular.

Great trail, was an awesome way to see the Badlands up close and personal. Canyons and formations you'd have no other way to see, plus some truly spectacular vistas over the Badlands if you venture off trail a bit - just be respectful of the wildlife and plant life if you do! Saddle Pass detour was totally worth it, great views and a fun little climb up one of the edges of the saddle. Medicine Root is a nice way to go back, you're up a little higher, so you don't do as much up and down and you can see more, so it's an overall faster trip. Did this in the middle of June and it got very warm after noon, so we were glad for the quicker trip back.

Great hike! There were a lot of people on the trail when we went. The ladder isn't too bad at all, just heavily trafficked. Really enjoyed this one! Short and easy.

This trail was an incredible trail that should be a must-do for everyone that have never been to the Badlands and only have one day to get the most out of it. It provides a nice flat trail through the grasses (beware of rattlesnakes) and leads up to the ladder. It’s easy going up but can be difficult descending. It gets strenuous right around there having you traverse around a very steep cliff into a canyon. But after that, the valley opens up and your in another world full of endless discoveries and a grand view to make a cherry on top of a great cake.

There were 8 of us and we loved the trail. Temp was 90+ but no shade.Bring plenty of water. The ladder was real interesting going down. Found out my 25 year old son is afraid of ladders. It freaked him out. Enjoy!
